Today, St. Marys is home to a number of colorful organizations such as The Knights Templar (a fraternal order), Holy Name Society (an independent Catholic girls' school), Mother Teresa's Home (a convent run by nuns), and numerous restaurants and bars that contribute to its lively atmosphere each day!

The town soon became one of the most important in the area due to its location on the St. Johns River and its close proximity to Atlanta. In 1837, the town was renamed from Spanish San Miguel de Allende after Saint Michael, who is considered an expert in exorcism.
