The first permanent European settlement in what is now Fulton County was made by Captain John Smith and his party on July 4th, 1775, when they landed on the Holston River from Carolina in search of new land to discovered and settle. On October 25th of that year, a group of thirteen men led by Smith and including three young boys under age 16 arrived at what would become Snellville from light canoeing and hunting expeditions over several weeks during November and December of that year. From this initial landing until 1800 there were only intermittent settlements throughout much of northwest Georgia due to lack of available flat ground or water for farming or development; however bad weather frequently delayed or stopped any further movement until more favorable conditions finally emerged later that year- most notably during January 1776 when an overflow from the Gwinnett Aqueduct destroyed most all existing rice plantations within twenty miles (32 km) radius due to drought brought about by severe freezes occurring during winter months; as a result many villages northeast of Americus had no food source whatsoever for their citizens until late February/early March 1776 when Captains Smith & Company returned with news that rich fields lay beyond the rivers weir at Milledgeville just east of present day SnellVILLE.) In 1824 James HSnelling donated 256 acres (117 ha) near present day Snellville to become what would be known as "Hillsborough Township." This donation included access to Creek Watershed which became one of Fulton County's earliest watersheds because it drained into the Chattahoochee River which flowed into Lake Lanier before entering downtown Atlanta proper through Ponce de Leon Boulevard). In 1881 James HSnelling's widow conveyed 380 acres (187 ha) northward along current Interstate 285 from Hillsborough Township to form what became known as Alpharetta Township; however even today Alpharetta still retains some vestige of its former township boundaries such as milepost 0 on US Highway 280E which runs parallel to I-285 across frontage lots currently occupied by Alpharetta Park & Development Corporation), creating a total land area now totaling 553 square miles (1,545 sq km). The Town Hall located at 1115 McNary Street NW served as county courthouse from 1901 - 1924 but consolidation with other counties resulted in closure & demolition beginning in 1925; following which funding ran out for restoration efforts resulting in significant damage (& loss) being done both inside & outside building including extensive replacement work required prior to reopening in 2004.) The largest employer within town limits has always been agriculture with livestock numbers comprising close to 60%of total employment back then although this percentage has gradually declined since then with nonagricultural employment accounting for nearly 30%& occasional arrests adjacent facilities such as schools buses etc.; overall though crime rates have generally remained relatively low while school staff shortages have recently causedAmidstraised public concern over possible privatization plans underway Race relations are generally good here despite recent public outcry over perceived racist attitudes exhibited by some residents towards certain minority groups;} However recent incidents involving physical abuse against Black students (& others involved therein))have sparked increased concern among local community members.}

Snellville was founded in 1821 by John Snell and his family. It became a stops on the Underground Railroad. The town was destroyed in the 1860s by a tornado, but it was rebuilt and renamed Snellville in 1865. In 1907, Snellville became the capital of Georgia.
