The Gun Safe Company of Smyrna, GA started makingsafe guns in 1892 and produced over 1,000 safes made from a variety of materials including brass, aluminum, plastic, fiberglass and stainless steel. The company closed its doors in 1984 but it left a lasting legacy on Smyrna with some of the most famous firearms being manufactured here such as the Colt M1911 Pistol and Winchester Model 70 Rifle.

The Smyrna School and Hospital was a school and hospital in Smyrna, Georgia. The school was founded in 1892 by Reverend C. H. Greggs, and the hospital was opened in 1917. The school closed in 1978, while the hospital remained open until it closed its doors in 1992.
