Smyrna, Georgia is home to many firearm enthusiasts and manufacturers. The city has been a center of firearms activity for over 150 years, and the tradition continues today. Smyrna's history with firearms can be traced back to 1881, when local residents donated shotguns to the city government in order to help fight a gunfight between two militias. This event is significant because it was the first time shotguns were used in an official capacity in Smyrna. From here on out, Smyrna would become known as the "Gun City." The early days of Smyrna's firearms industry were very prosperous. In 1916, pistol manufacturer Wesson Manufacturing Corporation established its headquarters in Smyrna. By the late 1920s, however, Smyrna had fallen behind other cities in terms of production. However, this did not stop guns from being produced here; instead, it just meant that these weapons were made more cheaply and domestically. Despite this problem though, Smyrna still enjoyed some success during this time period with their pistols and rifles. One such company that thrived during these years was Ransom-Haley Arms Company (now RHA Firearms). This company manufactured both pistols and rifle ammunition for both military and civilian users alike. Their products became well-known throughout the country due to their high quality and reliable performance. In 1939, after World War II ended successfully for America, new demand arose within the firearms industry for new types of rifles specifically designed for African Americans soldiers stationed abroad during wartime efforts such as Operation Torch . To meet this demand., Winchester entered into a partnership with Smith & Wesson which resulted in the development of what would become known as Winchester Model 70 rifles . At first glance these rifles appeared similar to those already popular among American citizens; however they were built specifically for African American troops who needed an accurate rifle that could handle heavy combat deployment overseas . These new rifles quickly gained popularity among servicemen all over America due to their ruggedness and reliability; moreover they looked cool too! Despite everything going well for Smyrna during these tense times - including newfound fame from its weaponry - things eventually unraveled starting around 1975 when then Mayor Art Acevedo accused members of his administration of stealing handguns from dealers across town while he was mayoralty candidate (he later changed his plea). This led directly to a trade war between gun dealers across town which ultimately led to several loss-making businesses closing down throughout downtown Smyrna thanks largely to increased taxes placed on them by Acevedo's administration (the tax hike was eventually repealed). As has always been common amongst small towns like Smyrana where economies are closely intertwined with firearms production - especially since prohibition ended - many businesses closed even though they didn't actually produce any guns or ammo anymore... but continued dealing in other aspects of their business including restaurants and retail stores which continue doing so until present day

In 1828, General James Kenedy purchased 2,000 acres of land within the present-day city limits for $1,000 to establish a post office and military base. The post office name was changed to Smyrna in 1830. The population of Smyrna peaked at over 100,000 in 1940 but then declined precipitously as a result of World War II. However, since the late 1990s, growth has again been strong with the population now estimated at over 30,000. thanks to recent investments in education and employment opportunities, Smyrna is continuing to grow and become an important center for cultural and economic development within Georgian County.
