The first people who lived in what is now Smyrna were Creek Indians who hunted game along the Chattahoochee River. In 1785, General James Talbot founded a military post here named Fort Talbot on a hill above present-day Smyrna. After several years of construction and occupancy by Army officers and their families, Fort Talbot was abandoned in 1802 whenTalbot was transferred to Mobile Bay as Commandant General of Florida under then-Secretary of War Alexander Stephens. However, because Fort Talbot had been built on land that later became Cobb County, its ruins still stand today in downtown Smyrna. In 1807–8 Major George Macon moved his command headquarters from Savannah to what is now Dawesville after victory over Native Americans at Battle of Horseshoe Bend near Marietta (then called Augusta). Macon named his new outpost Fort Moultrie after British general Sir John Moultrie (1760-1827), who had fought against them at Cowpens in 1781 and1782. In 1812 KingstOWN theatre opened on Broad Street between Constitution Avenue and 11th Street NW; it was one of only two theatres open for performances during AmericanPresident James K Polk's first term as president (the other being the Philadelphia Theatre). That year also saw the opening of First Baptist Church which stands today inside East High School across from former furniture store City Market Place used as an auditorium until 1978 when it reopened as West Cobb Community College with theater space on lower level used until 2003 as well as classrooms, music studios etc.; First Baptist congregation moved out permanently around 1840s due to religious differences with Presbyterian church back east which continued services there until 1954 when school building caught fire resulting in permanent closure . It wasn't until 1835 that what are now known as Third Street SW between Constitution Avenue NW and 12th Street NW cornering Government Road became private property owned by wealthy merchant Elias Dickey where he built a houseknown today simply as "Dickey's". This location would be significant later when Dickey donated land for what is now Piedmont Park following Atlanta's incorporation into Georgia in 1898. By this time already much development had occurred within present day boundaries including: erection of large numbers of homes (now Old Fourth Ward), founding/location/growth of businesses such as banks (now Citrus Bank & Trust), growthof churches (First Baptist being reestablished here circa 1840) - all while continuing service provided by existing schools including Methodist Episcopal Church – South which occupied current site prior to 1800SFMOW Millenium Library located just north side limits

In 1814, Smyrna was attacked by Confederate forces and lost many of its residents, including its mayor, who later died in battle. During World War II, Smyrna was destroyed by Japanese forces and many of its buildings were looted and burned. After the war, Smyrna resumed some form of economic activity but has since declined significantly. Today, the town is a small farming community with only a few hundred residents. Its history is significant not just because it played an important role in Georgian culture but also because it is one of the few places in America where slaves were owned by white people until after the Civil War.

The city then went into receivership and died within two years when it ran out of money.
