Sandy Springs began as a small frontier settlement on the Chattahoochee River in 1784 and was originally called "Stonebridge". As early as 1807, when it was chartered as a town by General James Wilkinson, Sandy Springs was one of the largest towns in Georgia and part of what is now Alabama. In 1847, with cotton becoming an important crop in Georgia, construction began on Sandy Springs' first railroad station. The line connected Savannah with Athens and eventually to Mobile and Birmingham. In 1860–61 Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest attempted to block this rail link between Atlanta and Chattanooga; his army destroyed several miles (16 km) of track near Sandy Spring. This event helped spur development around the new town. During World War II, there were numerous military installations in or near Sandy Springs: Fort Benning (1941), Fort Worth Army Air Field (1943), Morehead Army Air Field (1945), Eglin AFB (1946). After the war ended and many units moved out of local jurisdictions into newly created bases throughout Southeast United States, few remain today: USAF NorthCom airbase at Whiteman AFB Missouri; Keesler AFB Mississippi; Moody AFB Florida; Scott AB Texas; Hurlbut AFB Illinois; Whiteman AFB Missouri- home to missile launches from Vandenberg AFB California during Operation Neptune's Spear? The economy has changed dramatically since then: over 50% of jobs now require postsecondary education or professional work experience which often requires relocation from suburban areas outside Atlanta/Fulton County due to economic conditions within that area alone (see article: " Economic Development in Sandy Springs" for more information). One major attraction for residents is their location minutes away from both I-15/I-285 interchange ramps servicing all points eastward within Georgia including Jacksonville Beach/Clearwater Beach on Florida's Gulf Coast as well as Allatoona Hills Shopping Center just south of I-285 exit 194A providing access to Overbrook Mall located two miles west across I-285 bridge across Guntersville Freeway at mile marker 183T Today much like when it first became established under English rule back in 1606 following discovery of this place by John Deere & Company naturalist Capt William Byers who traveled along Chattahoochee River so he could map its properties his journal Entry dated October 26th 1784 reads "So we goes up river about 20 Miles thro’ thick woods under high bluffs where they build Stone Bridges some 400 feet high with lots ol Timbers laid down upon them 8 Foot Beam thick & strong". Creeks run through many parts of this beautiful country side making everyday tasks such as getting water every week very difficult but also provide irrigation for agriculture which also provides much needed revenue for cities such as Sandy Spring As mentioned earlier Stonebridge became known colloquially simply by its original name 'Stonebridge'. However future plans for this place included giving it more thought&ropriety than just calling it simply Stonebridge because even though people might know that name plenty don't bother trying too hard not to say anything derogatory about old landmarks because if you do people will think you didn't learn your lesson . So given that change occurred our original plan revolved around naming our new town after either someone who made an impact on our community or someone who had contributed significantly(s) towards building our great community we came up with names like Lady Bird Johnson Greenlaw Hawkins Hutchins etc... everything started off being pretty much pure conjecture until we met somebody who actually knew somebody named Colston Judd! We couldn't be happier with how things turned out! Today dining options available range from chain restaurants such as Dunkin' Donuts chains Walmart Supercenters Peachtree Cornett's Pizza places etc but once again quite reminiscent back then popular spots include Mrs Smith's Cafeteria right next door to Dunlap Schoolhouse Restaurant where parents would bring their children for lunch before going off to school each day Myrtle Beach style

The first settlers in what would become Sandy Springs were white men from South Carolina who arrived on horseback in 1802. They named their new community "Mosesburg" after General Moses Young and his army that had fought against Native Americans at the Battle of Monmouth (May 14, 1802). In 1811, John Ross founded what would become Sandy Springs as a small outpost on the Chattahoochee River between this current location of Sandy Springs and Atlanta. George Washington Carver started farming here in 1871 with his son James Aiken Carver. The town's first store was built by Elisha Cooke in 1875 and it became known as "Carversville." In 1915, during World War I when Atlanta was under attack by German forces, many patriotic residents decided to stay behind to help defend their city from harm. As a result of this decision many businesses closed down or shifted operations to safer locations; one such business being Jiffy Lube (now Lowe's). This event helped give birth to downtown Sandy Springs as we know it today – an area bounded by 5th Avenue NW., Peachtree Road NW., 7th Avenue NE., and Auburn Drive SE.. On December 20th 1908 Sixty-Third General Assembly of the Confederate States met at Mrs McCallion’s house on Broad Street near Depot Road for consideration of Gadsden Amendment #2 which proposed admission into Union Territory North Carolina within limits prescribed therein instead of allowing secession without due process thereof[1]. On February 4th 1909 resolution approving admission into Union Territory North Carolina under these terms passed with all members present except one abstaining Mr Fenton who moved that it not be reported.[2]GA 3rdSession 10:24 PM Feb 4 1909 This act created Constitutionality for Irvin Cobb School District No 1 within boundary lines described therein thereby giving rise theretolessee status as part of Marshall County proper including parts now included in DeKalb County line
