Sandy Springs is a city in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 112,883 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Fulton County and home to the Sandy Springs Mall. The Sandy Springs area was first settled by Europeans in 1785. The town of Sandy Springs was founded on December 12, 1859, by Enoch Pratt and James Fenton. In 1892, the town merged with neighboring Milledgeville to create Sandy Springs-Milledgeville Township. On October 1, 1896, the township became a city when residents of Milledgeville voted to become one. In 1924, Atlanta annexed parts of Fulton County including Sandy Springs; this made Sandy Springs the second city in Georgia after Atlanta to be incorporated as a municipality with a population exceeding 100,000 people. In 1951-1952 during the construction of Interstate 285 through downtown Atlanta (the "I-285 Revolution"), much of what is now Sandy Springs was destroyed as part of that project. A small portion of what is now Sandy Springs was rebuilt and renamed for Enoch Pratt; that portion includes most of Downtown's present-day boundaries between Main Street NW and Peachtree Road NE and Northwest Expressway SW/SE). On November 8th 2007 it snowed heavily in eastern North America for 16 hours straight! This caused many schools closed because Blizzards are not common here outside wintertime !!
