Riverdale is a city in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 23,527 at the 2010 census. Riverdale is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The first gun lights were made in Riverdale by three men who started making them in 1922. They were called "gunlights" because they shone on people as they walked down the street to show that they had a weapon with them. In 1925, a man named George Waddell invented the first self-contained electric light bulb and he used it to make gunlights. He sold them through door-to-door sales. By 1928, there were over 100 businesses selling gunlights in Riverdale. In 1935, two men named Harry Smith and Alonzo Dowling created the world's first operational automatic pistol turret machine gun system using an oil bath heater to heat up an ammunition magazine and shoot rounds into a target from overhead using an electromechanical armature; this system was known as the Dowling Machine Gun System or simply the 'Dowling'. This system allowed soldiers on battlefields around the world to fire automatically from armoured vehicles without having to reload. It remained standard equipment on many military vehicles until 1966 when it was replaced by grenade launchers

Riverdale is a town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 6,491 at the 2010 census. Riverdale is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. It was named for thereek River which flows through it. 2200 block of Peachtree Road, now home to US Bank Stadium and Philips Arena, served as the original town site in 1838 when Creek Indians (the first permanent white settlers) moved from their present-day location on Decatur Creek to this area after being driven out by the Creeks' new chief, John Ross. The first school in Riverdale was built on Second Street in 1839 by Methodist missionaries led by Rev. George Milledge. In 1840 a store and post office were established at what is now 4th Street and Washington Avenue; these two locations would later become known as Main Street and Peachtree Road respectively. In 1841 a church was founded on First Avenue near riverbank; this building still stands today and is used as an event hall/conference center. A large new courthouse was completed in 1886 and designed by American architect James McKim Jr.. The courthouse burned down but was replaced with a much smaller structure in 1904 that still exists today – Riverdale's only remaining brick building from THAT era! The towns growth continued apace during Reconstruction following the Civil War when General Nathan Bedford Forrest began buying up large areas of rural Fulton County for development into plantations near Valdosta, Georgia (now Savannah), then Mobile Bayou (now Mobile), Alabama, before finally moving his operations to nearby Macon County in 1870–71 under pressure from governor Andrew Johnson – who saw Riversdale as an opportunity to annex what he considered unnecessary territory west of downtown Atlanta! By 1920 there were 12 schools within 2 miles of Riverdale proper; this number had risen to over 50 by 1930 thanks to Fenton Elementary School being built adjacent to US Airways Terminal C along Peachtree Road just north of I-285/I-75 south of Interstate 95! In 1951 Riverdale became one of 25 towns or villages formed within newly created Roswell Municipal District; however its status until 1974 remained unchanged: simply another unincorporated community within Fulton County managed by Roswell Township officials! In 1984 main street between Fourth & Fifth Streets became renamed "Riverside Boulevard" in memory of Drs./Msgrs./Pastors David Ladd & Betty Hargrave who died suddenly while serving as educators at Roswell High School just east of main street… they are buried at Riverside Cemetery located behind Ponce de Leon Mall across from Sears!
