Richmond Hill is a town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 9,864 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. Richmond Hill is named after General James "Jimmy" Richmond who fought in the American Revolution and later served as Governor of Georgia. The first known inhabitant of what is now Richmond Hill was Mr. John Smith in 1764. By 1800, there were over 200 people living in the town including farming and small animal husbandry as well as trapping and fishing for Gamecocks and other game species. In 1802, General James Oglethorpe purchased land east of present-day Richmond Hill from Mrs. Elizabeth Randolph for $10 per acre (0·80 km²). This purchase initiated a process that would eventually lead to the creation of Cherokee County by which all the Creek Indians living east of Savannah were transferred to form this new countyric system following their Removal from Alabama during the Indian Removal Act of 1830. In 1823, Mr. Thomas Cowan erected a log sawmill on Pinson Creek located about one mile south-southwest of present day downtown Richmond Hill with plans to produce lumber for local need such as building construction and roofing applications among others; however, this mill never got off ground due to lack of investment or marketing support from either Mr. Cowan or his investors until it was taken over by JBM Timber Division in 1935 which continued operations until its closure in 1986 due to strategic decisions made by then-Governor Sonny Perdue regarding felling practices used on Little River Valley forests where muchLogging took place which caused an impact on water table levels resultantin damagesandlossestothecommunityovertimebefore finallybeingclosedbyPerduefollowinga lawsuit brought against him byoftheResidentsofRichmondHillonaccountofthisdamage). In 1824 Captain William Byrd set up a ferry service across Pinson Creek between here and nearby DecaturTownship carrying passengers and goods between here and Savannah via Decatur Ferry Landing downstream; however, this service did not get off the ground because no passengers wanted to pay for transportation when they could easily go directly from here into Savannah without having to cross Pinson Creek! In 1830 Colonel Samuel Dickson established a powder magazine at what is now Petersburg within easy walking distance (just north/northwest) of present day downtown Richmondhill with plans to produce cannonballs for use against Native Americans operating near Fort Moultrie on Macon Road some 25 miles away; however Colonel Dickson's venture failed due primarily because there was no market place available anywhere near Petersburg for these types Of products! However another attempt was made soon thereafter by Major Elijah Dixon who built an excellent brick smelter on Stono Ferry landing just northwest/ northeast of present day downtown Petersburg producing bricks primarily used throughout central & eastern Tennessee & southwestern Pennsylvania etc.; unfortunately Major Elijah Dixon's business closed down because he lacked political support locally or elsewhere within Georgia despite being able to provide quality bricks at competitive prices resulting ultimately in several thousand pounds (227 kg) worth(ofbricks) going unsold each month!). The first settler listed in our records date back quite some time before 1830 so we can safely say that development didn't really pick up around here until more recent times!

Richmond Hill is a census-designated place in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 1,851 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. Richmond Hill was named for General Sir John Moore Richmond, 3rd Baronet (1776-1847), who became a Brigadier General in the U.S. Army under George Washington and helped lead American forces against Cornwallis during the American Revolutionary War. After fighting at Yorktown and Bunker Hill he received an award from George Washington that made him a baronetcy. In 1801, Moore's son, James Fenton Richmond, moved to what is now Richmond Hill with his family and founded a cotton plantation which he ran until his death in 1830. In 1848, General Nathan Bedford Forrest arrived in Georgia as commander of Confederate forces and began to makeroads into this southern border state. By 1853 Forrest had defeated the Union army at Pulaski Creek and entrenched himself at Chattanooga where he built Fort Pillow on top of an ancient hill fortification overlooking the town below. On March 20th 1861 Forrest ordered all Confederate troops within three miles of Chattanooga to march out into Chattanooga for muster out or be put into chains and punished by firing squads; this order led to what would become known as "The Battle of Chickamauga". With most Petersburg residents able to flee before battle began it is difficult to estimate their numbers but it is thought that around 10%–15% of its prewar population withdrew before hostilities erupted
