In 1821, a store called The Arsenal was built near the intersection of Bolton and Patton Roads. It was the first gunsmith shop in what is now Richmond Hill. The arms merchant John Cockerill started buying firearms here in 1825. He also bought land for a rifle range on Patton Road in 1830. In 1848, General Nathan Bedford Forrest moved to Richmond Hill from Atlanta and began purchasing property here for his cavalry unit called "The Legion". The area around present-day Richmond Hill was largely Choctaw Nation land at this time.

Richmond Hill is bordered by Roswell to the north and west, Marietta to the east, and Cobb County to the south. The community was named after Henry Clay Richmond, an American politician from Kentucky who served as a U.S. Representative from 1847 to 1851 and as Secretary of State under President James K. Polk in 1850 and 1853. In 1861, Confederate General Robert E. Lee's army besieged Richmond Hill during the American Civil War before retreating through it on April 9th in order to cross into Alabama without losing any men or equipment; this event is known as "the battle at Richmond Hill". Today most of what once constituted Richmond Hill has been demolished due to urban development within its boundaries; however there are still several surviving buildings including a couple of churches which were renovated in the early 21st century and now serve as retail stores and homes for artists/ musicians (the current home of Savannah Arts Council). There are also some small patches of forest that remain within town limits though these have not seen much recent development either outside or inside town walls since World War II when they were mainly used for target practice by local boys during morning patrols around town center while their parents cooled down inside cafes nearby

His son, George Ruddick Jr., continued the family's businesses until he sold them to J C Thomas & Sons Incorporated in 1957. In 1974, Thomas merged with Blythe Corporation to form Atlantica Broadcasting Corporation which later changed its name to ABC Radio Networks Incorporated. The company purchased WSB-AM from CBS Radio Company divested by Time Warner during their merger into Turner Broadcasting System (now Time Warner Entertainment).
