In 1859, David Hogg and his brother Uriah bought land northeast of Pooler for $2 per acre (0.50 hectares). They built a log cabin and started to cultivate their land. In 1865 they erected a brick Fenton schoolhouse which served as the community's education center until it burned down in 1922. David Hogg also developed a grain elevator that became one of the largest in Georgia before it was destroyed by fire in 1961. He also owned several businesses including a grocery store and post office which are still extant today. In 1924, Rufus Dillard opened his Dillard Department Store next to the existing School House on Noland Road across from what is now the Village Green Shopping Center; this would become one of Pooler's most important commercial institutions up until its recent demolition in 2002: it continues to be used as a parkette today! He married Bathsheba Bechtel on October 2, 1904 and they continued to live here until her death on December 14th, 1949; she was buried at Fairmount Cemetery next door to her husband Rufus Dillard Sr.. Her remains are still unidentified!

General Pooler fought against British forces during the war and his community was named in his honor. During World War II, Pooler became a naval air station and played a significant role in providing military assistance to allies such as Japan and Europe. In 1951, General Pooler Elementary School was built on land that had been donated by him and many other locals. The school serves students from throughout central Georgia. As well, poolers have held various other events throughout their history including a fair which took place in 1892, an auto show which took place in 1954, a golf tournament which took place in 1957, and more recently – an annual parade which takes place on November 4th
