Porter is a town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 7,895 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The town was named for General George Porter, who fought in the American Revolution and served as a brigadier general in the War of 1812. Pooler was founded by white settlers in 1824 and incorporated as a village in 1827. In 1830 it became a town under the name of Poolesville after A. J. Pooler, an early settler and postmaster. In 1881, Pooler-Wilkinson School District No. 1 merged with other districts to form Tucker County School District No 2; this merger left Porter without its own school district until 1992 when it joined Gwinnett County Schools’ system (although some residents continued to attend Porter Senior High School). Pooler was a small town in Lumpkin County, Georgia, located on the banks of the Chattahoochee River. The community was founded in 1811 by George Pool and his wife Anna. In 1824, Pooler's sister-in-law Emeline Webb donated land to create what is now the town park. The population of Pooler peaked at 240 in 1915, but fell to 98 by 1939. It has since recovered and reached its current population of 508. The first permanent settler in Pooler was George Pool who came from Ratcliffe Village, England in 1794 with his family. He built a cabin on the banks of the Chattahoochee River where he named it "Poolersville." In 1811, George and Anna pooled their resources and purchased 4 acres (1 ha) of land east of present day Park Drive/Highway 11 for $75 USD. They erected a log cabin which they called "New Bunker" and began farming their new home that fall. In 1824, George's sister-in-law Emeline Webb donation land to create what is now known as the town park which opened to public use on May 3rd, 1825. At that time, there were only 10 residents living in poolerville with an average population size of 100 per year due to lack of transportation options or other means to reach them outside local agriculture production or trade opportunities available within Lumpkin County at that time. The area around today's Park Drive/Highway 11 became part of poolerville when it was deeded to the town by Mrs Webb in 1938 during her estate sale after her death following a long life as an agriculturalist & philanthropist for Poolerville & surrounding communities including Post Road Chapel near present day Decatur Hospital). There are numerous historical artifacts located throughout this vibrant community such as two dugout canoes still used for fishing purposes today inside the Town Park off Highway 11 opposite New Bunker Creek entrance; five pioneer farmsteads dating back to 1800; several post office buildings including one still standing (1899), three churches (1800s), two schoolhouses (1850s), four residences - allnow owned & inhabited by individuals - including one replica Georgian house from 1880; over 50 cultural relics including six handcrafted baskets made specifically for various events held annually within this unique community such as Georgia Folk Festival®, Peach Blossom Festival® & Mother’s Day Celebration®.; more than 350 original Planning Plates dated between 1800-1900 found throughout this intact rural landscape adjacent thereto - many bearing important early notations such as acreage sizes etc.; dozens if historic street namesakes like Post Road Chapel (& adjoining roads) originally given specific alignment starting from Ponderville Rd., entering into poolerville just past exits onto Highways 11W&11E before turning southwesterly towards Decatur Springs Rd./US 1st Avenue/Decatur Springs Blvd.; dozens if wellpreserved period buildings eveywhere significant evidence remains demonstrating antebellum lifestyle among these longstanding residents who continue alive&vibrant today some 150 years later!

The town had a population of seventy-two people when it was founded and grew to one hundred and thirty-six by 1860. By 1870, Pooler had become an agricultural center with a market garden, two churches, and three schools. The population of the town declined during the mid-19th century due to both economic factors and immigration from neighboring states. However, by 1930 Pooler's population totaled six hundred ninety-two people. During World War II, Pooler became an important military base providing housing for troops stationed at nearby Macon Air Force Base. The community lost its importance after the war but has since been reborn as a small rural community with some commercial enterprises
