The community was named after Salmon Ponds on the Chattahoochee River. Pooler's first post office opened in 1881. In 1902, it became an incorporated town and then a city in 1966. From 2000 to 2008, Pooler was the home of Braves minor league baseball affiliate Appalachian League side Lake Wales Legends (now Gwinnett Braves). In 1906, J.P. Morgan sent his son James P. Morgan Sr., Jr., to live with his mother and sister in Pooler for two years so that he could get experience as a banker before returning to America for law school at Vanderbilt University but failed to make it back in time for his final exams; he had intended to study under Professor George Stephenson Moore who taught at Vanderbilt Law School but moved when Morgan joined the firm of Haskins & Harriman where he met John Davenport Chase and became one of its largest investors and partners over 25 years later while still employed by Haskins & Harriman himself as Vice President and Chief Counsel (1929-1946). Johnson had been born near Poolersville in 1785 and left school at age 12 so he could work his way up through local businesses while attending night classes at Central High School. 4) Today much of downtown Houston Street is still lined with buildings built during earlier stages of Atlanta's streetcar boom – one such building can be found on Grant Avenue just north of Peachtree Street!
