OnFebruary 16th as part of an effort to prevent any disclosure that he had health problems before his inauguration on January 20th as President instead LBJ decided to have surgery performed on him only two days prior so there could be no reports or rumors that might cause any upset or concern among Americans about his health state should such an event occur during his presidency). Pooler is a town in south-central Georgia, United States. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. Pooler is part of the Americus–Fairbanks Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in what would become Pooler were white men who arrived on horseback from Tennessee in 1810. They named their township after George Washington Poole, one of their number. A post office was established at Pooler in 1820, and the town began to grow quickly. In 1826, a school was built and classes began. By 1830, there were more than 100 residents living in Pooler. In 1847, Samuel Hogg purchased 2/3 of section 9 of Township 12 east of present day Pooler for $350 and moved his family to this area from Decatur County, Alabama. He called his new community "Hogg's Ferry" after himself and his father-in-law James Hogg (1768-1836), a Revolutionary War veteran who had fought at Chickamauga and other Battles of Atlanta under General Lee. The community developed rapidly due to its location at the intersection of three major highways – the Western Turnpike (now I-5),the Savannah & Charleston Railroad (now CSX Transportation) mainline northwest of Pooler Junction, and the Dalton–Breda railway line southeast ofPooler Junction; as well as its natural resources including cotton fields and water rights on two creeks that fed into Lake Lanier near present day Lithonia. In 1865 when Confederate forces advanced into central Georgia during the American Civil War, many people fled to neighboring states such as North Carolina or Tennessee because they did not want war or slavery to continue in their homes state. Some people who remained behind founded Riceville which is now part of Pooler limits on the west side of pool river
