In 1879, John Pool established the village of Poolersburg on the north side of the pool that now forms part of Pooler. The village had a post office and two churches. Later, other villages were established aroundpool: Garden City on the south side in 1890, Stratford on the east side in 1901, Waycross on the north side in 1909, and Covington on the west side in 1944. In 1935, Ponderosa Park was built adjacent to pool for public use by residents and visitors alike. Today it remains one ofPoolers most popular tourist destinations with over 50 restaurants and cafes available within its boundaries alone! Today, many businesses have relocated to new locations throughout town – some dating back more than 100 years! Some examples include: Hogg’s Drug Store (established 1903), Jakes’ Furniture & Appliances (established 1932), Hawkins Hardware (founded 1904), Mr. & Mrs.'s Ford dealership (opened 1936), Post Office Savings Bank (established 1907), First National Bank (opened 1922) – all of which continue to serve their community today!

In 1865, it became the county seat of Fulton County. Pooler is located on the west side of Atlanta, close to Interstate 5 between I-5 and Sandy Springs Road. The first permanent white settler in what is now Pooler was John Pool who arrived in 1807 from England with his family. He built a cabin on a stream called Antietam Creek near present day Southeast Park Drive and Survey Street. This first settlement served as an stop for wagon trains traveling between Marietta (then known as Milledgeville) on the east and Roswell (then known as Redbank) on the west coast of Georgia. In 1857, John Ponder made a land purchase from David Cobb that included 300 acres (121 hectares) of current day Pooler Township along with sections of what are now Sandy Springs Road and Garden Grove Boulevard. The new town was named after Mr. Ponder’s wife Sarah which he had married there during his trip back from England earlier that year.. Fulton County was established in 1794 following the creation of Georgia Territory by George Washington while he was Commander-in-Chief of North America during the American Revolution. The area around Pooler became part of Fulton County when it was organized January 1st, 1855 under General James Biddle's administration.. It is interesting to note that one early inhabitant of this earliest community named William Hickey emigrated toPooler in 1830 from Connecticut! One also has to mention Jabez Bowen who settled here about 1840; he appears to have been one of only two African Americans living within miles radius at that time! After years living among Europeans they decided to move back home again once their children reached adulthood; however Bowen may have become one or more successful farmers hereabouts! The abundance & qualityof water supply led early settlers to build dams & reservoirs for irrigation purposes – much like those we see today across central & southern GA.– another feature typical for those days! Today most residents still rely heavily upon groundwater wells if needed but some newer homes/condos do use solar energy etc….
