Pooler, Georgia is a small town in the north-central part of the US state of Georgia. It lies about 20 miles (32 km) south of Atlanta and about 25 miles (40 km) east of Macon. The population was 4,100 as of the 2010 census. Pooler's history dates back to 1875 when it was founded as a post office on the banks of the Don River by Elisha Crayton and James Hogg. In 1924, Pooler became a city. The first guns that were used in combat in America were muzzleloaders made by Nicholas-Jacques Conte and imported from France in 1776. These muzzleloaders were adopted by militias during the American Revolution because they could be reloaded quickly with just one round left in each chamber. For this reason, muzzleloader rifles became a mainstay for militia forces until more efficient firearms were developed for them around 1820. In 1825, Major John Fenton designed and built the first rifle using breech loading ammunition which he called an “Artillery Rifle”. This weapon operated like an artillery piece but was only available to brigades or regiments instead of units composed entirely of men soldiers. unlike most other weapons at that time, artillery rifles could be reloaded multiple times without having to stop and unload their rounds like infantry firearms did. This innovation allowed armies such as Napoleon III’s French Army to defeat Prussian Army at Jena on October 13th 1806 with ease due to Napoleonic doctrine which held that firepower was more important than Infantry tactics during large engagements such as war battles outside cities

The town came about when Captain John Pooler, an American Revolutionary War veteran, decided to set up a trade center on the river. He named his new town after himself, Pooler Landing. The first settler in Pooler was Mr. Brown. He erected a cabin in 1794 and started trading with other nearby towns. By 1811, there were six families living in Pooler. In 1813, Colonel John Fenton moved his family from Macon toPooler to take advantage of the fresh water resources available thereabouts. Fenton became one of the most influential men in Pooler and is credited with helping develop its economy and community spirit. In 1819, Doctor James Smith built a house at what is now known as Third Street near where Fourth Street meets Fifth Avenue in Pooler Township. This house is still standing and has been used as an office building by several local businesses since it was built. In 1830, Captain John Pritchard settled inPooler with his wife and four children following their removal from Macon County following the Cherokee-American War (1812-1814). Pritchard developed what is now called Parkersburg into an important commercial center during this time period due to its location on the Apalachicola River close to both Charleston and Pensacola (then Spanish Florida). Captain John Pritchard's arrival helped spark growth within Poolertown towards becoming an important commercial hub for both Georgia and Florida during this time period
