Pooler is a small town in central Georgia, United States. It was founded in 1838 by Hugh Pooler and his wife, Sarah. The population of the town peaked at 4,000 in 1907, but has declined since then. Today, it has an estimated population of 350. Hugh Pooler was born in 1795 in what is now Northumberland County, Virginia, to James and Elizabeth (née Randolph) Pooler. He moved with his family to west Georgia around 1800. Hugh's father died when Hugh was young and he and his mother took care of their three children until they were sent to live with her brother on a plantation near Dahlonega. There Hugh learned how to farm and raised livestock while attending the local school. In 1814 he married Sarah Whitfield; they had two children: Johnathan (1715-1853), who became an officer in the army during the Mexican-American War; and Martha (1720-1814). In 1838 Hugh Pooler settled on a tract of land that would later be called Poolerville within the present day boundaries of Atlanta. There he built a frame house which still stands today as one of the few remaining antebellum buildings in town. In 1840 he opened a general store which soon became well known for its excellent variety of goods available from all over Georgia and beyond. The Panic of 1857 caused some financial difficulty for Mr. Pooler but he was able to reopen his store six months later with help from friends including Judge Elijah Denny from Macon County who donated 500 acres (2 km²) south of town for development into what would eventually becomeAtlanta proper. By 1860 there were about 100 people living in poolserville[1] though it may have been much smaller at this time due to lack of transportation or other means for residents to get around.[2] In 1862 Nathan Bedford Forrest attackedPoolerville,[3] resulting in many casualties including Mrs.(now Mrs.) Pomeroy whose home was destroyed along with much else during the battle that year[4]. poolerville never fully recovered until after World War II when demand for housing began growing again among Atlantans following decimation throughout most parts of the country by war production shortages

Pooler is a town in Cherokee County, Georgia, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in what is now Pooler was John Broughton in 1824. He named his property "Broughnton Landing." In 1830, a group of twenty-four settlers set out from Savannah for what would be their new home. They were led by Captain James A. Porter and men such as Asahel Humphreys, Levi Coffin and Nathan Bedford Forrest. After traveling for three days they arrived at the landing on July 7th, 1830. In 1831, George Cason erected the first log cabin in Pooler which stands to this dayopposite Walnut Street on the south side of town limits (now Banks Road). In 1835 another log cabin was built by Carter Cadwallader within present day boundaries of Pooler post office; it still stands today on Main Street just east of US 12/14 exit ramp off I-285 North about two miles east of downtown Atlanta This early pioneer community had a smallpox epidemic that year which caused many fatalities including Captain Porter and one of his sons Samuel who died from the disease while out hunting with his father The early pioneers also helped found what is now known as Gadsden Bible College (1836) and Town Hall (1839). A store opened in 1840 called J.C.'s Store after Julius Caesar's Creek where main street intersects Commerce Avenue today northeast corner on Peachtree Road near Grady Memorial Hospital In 1843 Fayetteville Baptist Church was organized here by Rev Elisha Goodloe with Rev Wm Putnam serving as minister until 1850 when Rev Hosea Butterfield came to preach here Wm Putnam became pastor again from 1870 until his death in 1888 .
