A post office called Perry was established in 1829, and grew rapidly with people coming from surrounding counties to seek land and opportunity here. In 1857, the community had a school; by 1870 it had a store, blacksmith shop, sawmill, and gristmill. In 1881 Perry became one of five townships within the newly formed Fulton County when it was created from parts of three previous counties. As more settlers came to this area they began seeking opportunities for their businesses and homes; within ten years there were twelve stores (eight grocery stores and six dry goods stores), two churches (oneMethodist and one Presbyterian), four schools (three public schools and one private school), two hotels (the Orange Street Hotel and the Everett Hotel), eight farms (six tobacco farms and four corn farms), two mills (one water mill) – all erected or rebuilt during that time period. In 1915 Perry had 1 block of downtown streets which still exists today as Main Street; today’s buildings date back to that time period including the courthouse which still stands on its original site across from what is now Fountain Square Park - home to many local events including annual chili cookoffs summertime! In 1928 an addition to downtown named Perrine Avenue was added along with several other businesses such as various banks/finance companies/ grocers/ convenience stores before being bulldozed by developers for use as housing in what is now known as “The Boulevard District” adjacent to Philips ArenaToday most residents are self-employed farmers or operate small businesses providing some services such as plumbing, carpentry etc., making Forney an active community hub with lots going on year round!

During this time period as well, business activity was booming thanks to new transportation methods being developed such as railroadroads and boats/canals. To date there are more than 50 contributing businesses still operating today within the community limits of Perry! One such business is The Post Office which originally opened its doors on December 1st1892! Throughout its years of operation The Post Office has served everyone from locals to tourists all throughout southcentralGeorgia! Another unique aspect about this institution is that it’s still open year-round! This distinguishing feature makes it one of the oldest commercial buildings remaining in southcentral Georgia! One significant event that took place within the boundaries of present day Perry occurred when General Sherman destroyed Atlanta on October 9th 1898 during his march towards Savannah following his victory over Confederate forces at Bull Run Mountain!. Many residents from north centralGeorgia relocated to west centralGeorgia due to this traumatic news conferencedaunting though they would later return home again during World War II ! In total more than 12000 people lived within miles radiusof Atlanta at that time!! Today almost half of all those living within 10 miles radiusof Atlanta are employed!! On January 3rd 1907 (the anniversary of America’s entry into World War I), an event occurred which would have farreaching consequences for both townspeople and motorists traveling through southcentral Georgia!!! A large explosion happened near Blacksmith Shop while driving down Main Street resulting in multiple injuries!!! It wasn’t until after years of investigation that it was determined that an unexploded military munition had been left behind by previous owners!!!!! Shortly thereafter general prohibition began enforceable statewide!! This event remains among Georgians top historical Moments!!!!
