Over time, other settlers joinedDuBose in Perry and soon there were enough people to support a school, store, post office, doctorate college and several churches. In 1824, George Washington Post masterminded the founding of Atlanta University which later became Georgia State University. During World War II, many jobs were available in the area due to its proximity to major military bases such as Fort Benning and Dahlgren Air Force Base. However, after 1945 most of those jobs vanished because of technological advances that made manufacturing more efficient than ever before. Today you can still find some businesses that survived from earlier times like T-Mobile or Coca-Cola which all originated from local companies that made their way up through the community economy over time
