In 1924, Prentice-Hall began selling educational materials related to optics including textbooks, movies, and telescopes. They also began selling optical equipment such as microscopes and telescopes. In 1945, The Optical Society of America was founded in Perry with the goal of promoting science and technology through education. In Perry, Georgia, one of the first optical accessory stores was opened in 1941. The store was located on US-11 near present-day Interstate 85. At that time, it was the only optical store in the area and became a popular destination for customers looking for new eyeglasses, sunglasses, contact lenses and other optical products. In 1951, the store moved to its current location on Court Street. In 1984, Perry's first computer resource center opened its doors. It served as a stop for students using their school supplies to purchase software and hardware for their computers. In 1996, Perry's football team won the Peach Bowl defeating Auburn University 42-14. This event brought more attention to the city of Perry and its citizens who had supported the team all season long. The following year saw another major development when First National Bank donated $1 million to help expand the city's cultural resources including an art museum and library. The donation made possible the construction of both museums which were dedicated in 2003 and 2006 respectively.

Perry is a small town in Griffin County, Georgia, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. Perry is located on the Chattahoochee River just east of Interstate 285 and west of Interstate 75. The history of Perry begins with early pioneers who arrived in 1812 when Georgia was still part of the Creek Nation. In 1814, John Crain established a merchants' store in what is now Perry and began trading goods with the Cherokee Nation. A year later, he opened a general store and warehouse in what is now downtown Perry. By 1830, there were five stores operating in Perry. In 1836, Indian Removal began as Treaty No. 5 resulted in more than 2 million Cherokees being forced from their homes within Georgia to Oklahoma Territory under General Sherman's orders. Many of these Cherokees were sent to join General Braxton Bragg's army at Fort Moultrie on April 15,1836. However, many Cherokee men chose to stay behind and fight against the white invaders instead of joining up with their Indian allies or fleeing into Oklahoma Territory. In 1837, after three years of fighting against Native Americans near present-day Tuckerville (now Roswell), General Nathan Bedford Forrest succeeded in driving all Cherokee troops out of Alabama by December 31st that year following his victory at Battle Horseshoe Bend that November night.
