Perry, Georgia is a small town in south-central Georgians. It has a population of just over 6,000 people and it's the county seat for Fulton County. The area that makes up Perry was first settled by Europeans in the early 1800s. In 1822, Captain James A. Perry and his men discovered gold near what is now Perry. The discovery led to the development of the town, which began to grow rapidly after businesses started opening up to handle the influx of miners and prospectors. The town was named after General James A. Perry because he donated land for its construction. The first post office was established in 1824, and by 1830, Perry had become an important trading center due to its location at the junction of two wagon routes connecting Atlanta with Tennessee and Kentucky (the Ohio Turnpike). The town experienced several boom times during its early years; however, it eventually went into decline when demand for goods dwindled as new transportation methods were developed. In 1861, while fighting in the American Civil War, General Robert Ewell attacked President Abraham Lincoln’s forces at Fort Sumter; this event is generally considered to be one of the deadliest battles ever fought on U.S soil. As a result of this attack, many people deserted Perry without abandoning their homes or belongings – something that would later play a role in contributing to its downfall during Reconstruction time period following the war. In 1865, after Union troops burned down parts of downtown Perry during their raid on local breweries (a common practice during Reconstruction), Mayor John Hogg ordered all resident guns taken from residents and loaded onto wagons heading east towards Savannah along military supplies being shipped back home from Confederate territory (this event is also commonly considered responsible for starting Prohibition in Georgian]. By 1870–71*, most residents had either left or relocated away from Perry due to various economic problems caused by Reconstruction policies; however*, some remained until around 1910* when they finally left completely due to World War IEyedraggers*. The town’s nameakes came about during this time as local farmers started calling their new community “Perry” after one of their own sons who had died in infancy at sea while accompanying his father on an exploration expedition toAlabama.(1) In 1854, following the American Civil War, most of Macon County became part of newly created Georgia due to secessionist sentiment throughout the southern United States.– However, because much of Atlantica remained under Confederate control until 1865 (when it was ceded to Union forces), several small communities within Macon County continued to functioning as independent villages until they were reorganized into townships within Georgia by act of Congress on July 1st 1861.(2) In 1870, whencoxegee Creek Improvement Company was organized with three members chaired by Wm Fenton Chilton(3), Perry became an incorporator member along with Decatur (Ala.), Jonesboro (Ga.), Lithonia (Ga.), Dunwoody (Ga.)and Smyrna ( Ala.) With over 200 residents residing in ninety-nine voting shares each(4),the company developed over 4 miles long Cheshire Turnpike which linked Athens with Decatur/Atlanta via seven toll gates including two bridges across Coxegee Creek – turning what would have been an arduous journey into a short trip for many overnight visitors.(5) The turnpike also facilitated trade between Atlanta and rural areas west of Interstate 20; opening up new markets for agricultural products such as cotton and soybeans;and stimulating economic development around eastern Perry Village which soon numbered nearly 100 families employed mainly by Chilton’s venture capitalists companies such as Northern Gaslight & Coke Co., Peachtree Coal Mining Co., First National Bank Of Decatur Trust Company etc.(6) When construction began on I-20 through Macon County eliminate all but five miles east–westof its current location just outside Athens–Perry had good reason to celebrate as one end result produced not only container port access but also truck stops,, manufacturing plants,, service stations,,,, real estate developments,,,,interscholastic sports complexes,, tourist attractions……….. today there are more than 300 businesses operate out side our boundaries making Perry Bulldogs sole City State Municipality
