After World War I ended however demand for cotton declined which led to declines in business until the late 1920s when prices increased again due to changes in world trade patterns In 1960, Perry received its own television station WSB-TV which made it an important player on Fulton County's radio network During the 1990s-2000s recession many small businesses closed their doors including several that did not have permits from city regulators to open . One such business was JW Marriott which closed its doors after eight years due largely to lack of customers In 2002-2003 local government officials decided that they would no longer allow any more new businesses into town so most storefronts that had been vacant since 2001 were razed Many residents took up residence at nearby Gwinnett County's overflow shelters but many continue heavy farming activities as well as some light manufacturing
