Peachtree City, Georgia is a small city in Fulton County, Georgia. The population was 382 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Fulton County. Peachtree City is also home to the Atlanta Falcons football team and is one of two cities in metropolitan Atlanta that are not part of the Atlanta BeltLine. The city was founded on December 15, 1892 by businessmen John W. Griggs and George Millington, who named it after Peach Tree Creek which ran through the city. In 1907, Peachtree City became a town when it annexed neighboring Decatur and withstood annexation attempts from both Marietta and Alpharetta. The first post office opened in 1908 and remained in operation until 1969; Peachtree City had three churches (Methodist, Presbyterian and Baptist) as well as a school (Peach Grove School). In 1915-16, World War I interrupted development of Peachtree City but did not kill off its economy; instead, businesses reopened after the war while construction began on new roads, bridges and other infrastructure projects that would define PeachtreeCity's future. Businesses such as JBL Broadcasting Company—the world's first radio station broadcasting over television—and Coca-Cola Bottling Company built large complexes downtown before becoming dormant again during the 1920s; these days most modern buildings were built between 1940–1950.
