In 1865, a group of farmers in Peachtree City began to purchase firearms. over time, they became known as the "Gun Club." The Gun Club purchased rifles and shotguns from local merchants and then started to teach members how to use them. In 1868, the Gun Club moved its operations to a new building on First Street. Over time, it continued to acquire new firearms and taught members how to shoot. In 1915, the Gun Club merged with another organization called the Riflemen's Association of America (RAA). As part of this merger, the Gun Club changed its name to the Peachtree City Riflemen's Association (PCRA). The PCRA was responsible for arming city residents for self-defense purposes. It also organized yearly rifle matches between city residents and neighboring towns. In 1937, PCRA merged with another organization called NRA which became known as the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF). This merger allowed NSSF become one of the largest gun organizations in North America. Today, NSSF is responsible for organizing shooting contests across America that pit citizens against each other in various types of matches including airsoft competition, hunting/fishing tournaments, and target shooting events.
