Even though there was no water available for farming, peach orchards continued to be established in this area because people found them delicious! In 1916, Mayor John Hargrave declared an emergency due to an outbreak of tuberculosis that was raging throughout Atlanta at the time. With only six days notice, he called together all citizens of Atlanta to come forward with ideas on how to deal with this public health emergency. One suggestion was forming a committee to study ways to improve sanitation so thatTB could be managed more effectively. This committee ultimately developed plans forAtlanta’s first public toilet! In 1922-23 when New Deal programs were being implemented in Atlanta, Mayor James Miltimore decided that Peach Creek Township should become part of the new town of Atlantas growth zone. As part of these programs- called Arboretum District – Peach Creek Township became known as Arboretum Heights! When Atlantas population reached 25 million by 1940 (!), PEACH CREEK TOWNSHIP became officially incorporated into ATLANTAS as THE CITY OF PEAHTREE CITY !!

In 1861, Confederate forces attacked Union troops at Chattahoochee River Bridgekilling over 50 soldiers including Mayor Davenport and several members of his family; this event is known as the Battle of Chattahoochee River Bridge%. After the battle, most Georgians turned against their Confederate leaders- some even joined Union forces- but many residents remained within the city until 1865 when it fell to Union troops under General Ulysses S Grant during Sherman's Atlanta Campaigns Operation Varsity . After Reconstruction ended in mid-1870s with voting rights for African Americans restored through passage of Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution (1911), several large cotton plantations were abandoned in east Cobb County due to lack of labor or political instability caused by freedmen moving into these areas seeking opportunities rather than returning home after Reconstruction was announced. Many white families also left eastern Cobb County for good during this time period because they did not want black people living there amidst traditional white activities such as farming or working in factories that employed whites only
