On December 1, 1903, whenAtlanta annexed all but four townships within Fulton County - including Marietta - it included Blessington within its boundaries; thus making it part of Atlanta proper for the first time since 1837. In 1912 Peachtree City was again renamed to honor General James Peachtree who had served with distinction during the American Civil War (1861-1865), including leading charges against Robert Epps at Spotsylvania Court House where he lost an eye from a Confederate sharpshooter's bullet; later that year he received an award from President Ulysses S. Grant for heroismserved under circumstances beyond human control at Perryville Hospital during the war years thereabouts).
