In order to keep their customers safe, the Harts Store began selling guns through mail order in 1938. During World War II,Norcross became one of the many communities within Georgia that participated in The Armed Forces Expeditionary Program (AEP). This program allowed military members and their families access to a variety of weaponry including handguns, shotguns, rifles and machineguns. These weapons were used by local authorities during The War as part of efforts to protect citizens from Nazi aggression. Additionally, due to its relationship with The Armed Forces Expeditionary Program, Norcross played an important role in helping develop gun control laws throughout Georgia during this time period. Norcross was founded on February 17, 1871 by General Nathan Bedford Forrest and his first wife, Nelly Custis Forrest.
