Norcross is a small town in Decatur County, Georgia, United States. The population was 1,354 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The Norcross–Macon Metropolitan Statistical Area had a population of 6,549 as of 2018. Norcross is located in the northwestern corner of Decatur County on State Route 285 between Stone Mountain and Duluth Avenues. Its elevation range is . It covers an area of and has a total population of 1,354 as of the 2010 census.The community name may come from Dutch traders who visited this area in 1784-85 while looking for new markets for their goods. In 1824-25 John Norcross donated land to form what became Norcross Township and he served as its first township trustee from that date until his death in 1869. The first post office in Norcross was established on December 12, 1827 (later changed to November 15). The present post office building was built in 1888 and named after Johnnor Cross Sr., who donated the land for it. On July 8, 1907, two men were killed when their wagon caught fire while driving through Norcross on I-285; one man died instantly and the other was burned over 50% below his waist before being able to ambulatory within minutes. A $5 million donation by Roy Barnes helped rebuild norross' infrastructure following that tragedy including a new school system which opened in 2002 Today there are several businesses located near school that have contributed significantly to economic stability and growth over time: McDonald's restaurants (opened 1957), KFC (opened 1959), Walmart Supercenter (opened 1984), Macy's Department Store (opened 1987) - all now part of company Walton's Neighborhood Market chain; Home Depot; ServiceMaster Industries Incorporated (now Hometownully Inc.) own three stores local toNorcross: one across I-285 from schools next door called "Pinecrest" open since 1978; another just off US 287 about midway through town called "Kingston" also open since 1978 - both now home to Sears & Roebuck Dept stores; also active are several churches with services taking place throughout the day outside/in front of various businesses providing social services like job search/interviewing assistance etc.; along with more recently construction projects such as a new library building completed in 2013 which includes classroom space for high school students adjacent to full sized gymnasium used by many local sports teams including football, baseball diamonds&community soccer fields - making it one stop shop for Plaza High School students seeking opportunities beyond simply going into retail channels or attending public schools nearby

The town rapidly grew and became a center for cotton farming and industry. In the 1920s, Norcross became an important stop on the US Highway 1 corridor. Today, Norcross is a small community with a population of around 500 people. Norcross has a rich history that dates back to 1892 when Nicholas Norcross and his wife Emily set out to found their own town in what is now known as Norcross, Georgia. The couple quickly realized that they needed to find land for their new community since there wasn't much available in the area at the time. They soon realized that they would need to start Tommy's Mill which would be their primary source of income during this early days of the town. In addition to starting Tommy's Mill, Nicholas also started a bakery which still stands today as one of Norcross' most popular businesses. By 1925, Norris had built several other businesses including Hardware store,seed warehouse,and gas station/convenience store before finally settling down into his homebase at 514 Main Street where he would live until his death in 1978. The rapid growth of Norris' business led him to build up some impressive infrastructure within his homebase such as an acreage for crops and fruit trees, two miles of paved road laid out for shopping and services (including a post office), three large barns (one used as storage space until it was converted into living quarters for local farmers), and four more smaller Barns which were used by local farmers for storage purposes only! Additionally, Norris constructed two large markets- one on Main Street where he sold everything from eggs to flour allthe way throughto candy bars- while another market nearby served as both Storefront & Service area! This type of infrastructure made it possible for Norris' business empire to reach its current heights over many years! It should be noted that despite being very busy throughout his life - norris never lost sight of his humble beginnings or hometown spirit which helped make him such an successful entrepreneur!
