The town was founded in 1827 by Methodist missionaries and settlers who came from the northeast United States. The mission of Norcross was to provide religious education for Native Americans and promote Christianity among the local Cherokee Indians. The town grew rapidly during the late 1800s and early 1900s due to its strategic location on the railroad and its proximity to important crops such as cotton and tobacco. Today, Norcross is a small but thriving community with a rich history that has been influenced by its surrounding communities. Norcross was originally known as "Northeast" because it lay along the north-south line of newly formed Fulton County. In 1827, Methodist missionaries arrived in what is now Norcross with plans to establish a school for native Americans and proselytize among their Cherokee Indian neighbors. Within two years of arriving, the missionaries had built a chapel, schoolrooms, and other infrastructure within the limits of what would later become Norcross Township. As tensions between white settlers and Cherokee natives increased throughout eastern Georgia during the 1830s, some parishioners decided to move away from northeast Georgia altogether in order to avoid contact with those they considered racially hostile. Others chose to remain in northeast Georgia despite high levels of violence against both groups due to economic reasons alone: farming provided many residents with enough income not to need protection from militia or outlawry; access to transportation made moving around difficult; and – most importantly – Bibles were often enough security against robbery or violence outside of church services (Lutheran churches were more likely targets for robberies). Despite these challenges, NortheastGA continued growing rapidly through 1840 when it merged into new DeKalb County which at that time consisted primarily of slaveholders' plantations (Slaveowners would continue purchasing land until about 1850). Racially restrictive laws passed by DeKalb County's government further restricted African American migration within county boundaries while increasing competition for jobs within agricultural strongholds like Decatur/Atlanta/Roswell etc.; northeastern GA slowly began disappearing as farms became larger and more mechanized-driven economies emerged during this period (78% farms owned by men by 1900). Although much has changed since then regarding race relations within norcross township/citizenry - particular gentrification trends over recent decades - there are several key aspects about northeastern GA's cultural past that have endured: 1) evangelism played an important role locally in promoting Christianity amongst indigenous peoples; 2) denominational affiliation helped define locals as part of one specific denomination or group increasingly separate from mainstream society outside their township limits; 3) evangelical influences also shaped neighbourhood namesakes such as "Pine Bluff", "Hogback Mountain", etc.; 4) traditional values such as hospitality play an important role today memory recreationISM being very popular among younger generations especially around Christmas time
