Newnan began hosting events related to music and dance at Dooley Park beginning in 1955; these continue today under the name "Dooley Park Folk Festival." In 1961, Mayor Artur Davis announced that Newnan would become home to Coca-Cola's corporate headquarters following company decision to expand into newly acquired property north of Chattanooga along Interstate 20 (the old route of US 95). Today Coca-Cola operates two manufacturing plants located within walking distance of each other at Pemberton Road/Candler Boulevard east of I-20) - one produces soft drinks while the other produces ice cream products such as Coke ZeroTM .
