Newnan is a city in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 24,541 at the 2010 census. Newnan is the county seat of Fulton County. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. A new City Hall was completed on Third Street north ofcurrent-day Park Drive in 1918 which served until 1949 when it too caught fire leading to its demolition and replacement with an addition that still stands today -serving as both a library and community center since 1995. The civic improvement project which began in 1951 included constructing two blocks south of Main Street between First Avenue South and Second Avenue South into what are now known as Farmer’s Market Place (then Glennview), Pioneer Courthouse Square (now downtown), Citizens Bank Building (now One Championship Plaza), Grady Community High School (now Grady Gibson High School), Presbyterian Church – First Presbyterian Church (now Pentecostal Health Services Chapel), Pryor Baptist Church – Second BaptistChurch (Now Pryor Baptist Temple; previously Christ Episcopal Church)), Gwinnett Technical College/Northeast Campus from Booker T Washington Boulevard east to Interstate 85/I-85 North Childers Lane west finally including Old Fort Campbell Museum located along I-85 North beyond Childers Lane northeast corner). Today, there are over 60 businesses operating within walking distance or car service rangeof most residents with downtown becoming an important hub for shopping, dining & entertainment options without ever leaving the city limits

To the southeast it meets Dawson County’s riverbank before turning northwestward towards Stone County where it flows into the Flint Hills reservoir near Rocksprings. The western boundary of Newnan follows an alignment which runs parallel to US-1 for about two miles before turning northeastward again near mile marker 27 on this highway. This alignment forms part of what was once known as Old Indian Road which ran from Fort Smith downriver past Lake Tugaloo through present day Muscogee Nation territory to Mobile Bayou in Alabama before continuing on upriver past modern day Jacksonville Beach into Florida proper
Newnan, Georgia was founded in 1795 by Capt. James Newnan and his team of British soldiers who were traveling through the area on their way toologne. The town was named after Captain Newnans' home county of Northumberland. The first post office was established in 1814, and the first store opened in 1824. The population of Newnan grew rapidly during the early 1800s due to its proximity to a major railroad station and its location near Atlanta. In 1836, the town annexed neighboring towns of Dunwoody, Johns Creek, and Clayton. By 1860, Newnan had over 2,000 residents and was considered one of the most populous cities in Georgia. During World War II, Newnan served as an airfield for the Allies from 1942 until 1945.
