Newnan, Georgia is a small town located in Fulton County, Georgia. The population was 3,711 at the 2010 census. Newnan is home to the Newnan Museum of Art and History and the Newnan School District. The town also has a football team called the Falcons. Newnan was founded by white Americans in 1827 as an agricultural community on a small creek near present-day Roswell. By 1853, the community had grown enough to become its own district under General James Wilkinson's jurisdiction. After helping to organize what would become Fulton County, Newnan voted itself into statehood in 1857 and incorporation as a village occurred that year. In 1865, following Reconstruction efforts in Georgia which led to African American education being available only through private schools rather than public institutions, Newnan became Atlanta's first black municipality and began providing services such as housing and health care for residents of the city limits until it disbanded in 1976. The area now known as downtown Newnan was once part of Roswell Township where many local businesses were established before moving out or being taken over by larger corporations after World War II; most notably Southern Bell Telephone Company who built their Headquarters with land donated by Roswell developer Floyd Abrams. Today much of this industrial zone can still be seen from Roswell Road NE up until 2nd Street NW - including some buildings used by AT&T (now Time Warner) during their early years as regional providers here in metro Atlanta before they moved to Cobb county full time around 1992/93 - blocks away on First Avenue NE between Interstate 20W and I-285 North when construction started on Turner Field across First Avenue NE from downtown (the current site of Philips Arena). Downtown development resumed after 1990 when Philips Arena opened followed by several other high-end development projects including Lululemon Athletica headquarters north of downtown just south of I-285 Northwest cornering First Avenue NE then east along I-20E past Midtown Marriott before continuing southeast along Peachtree Road SE bordering Druid Hills before looping back northeast onto First avenue NE opposite Phillips Arena making it one block long! Roaches are still major problem Downtown but have slowly been decreasing since Pest Control installed new technology inside arena
Newnan was founded in 1802 by James Robertson and his wife, Sarah. The town grew quickly due to its location on the Chattahoochee River, and by the 1830s, Newnan had a population of about 100 people. In 1837, Newnan became the capital of Georgia after being chosen as the site for a new state government. In 1840, Minnesota Territory was created from parts of Georgia and Alabama, and Newnan became its capital. By 1850, however, Newnan's population had dwindled to around 25 people due to a combination of factors such as increased travel times between Atlanta and Newnan, an increase in white settlement in east Georgia (including Milledgeville), and Native American raids that destroyed much of the town's infrastructure. In 1865, following the end of Reconstruction in America after the U.S. Civil War ended slavery, Newnan was placed under military jurisdiction under General Order No. 9 which prohibited any Negroes from living within 1 mile (1 kilometer) of any white person or public building without first applying for leave from their respective owners/holders. As a result of this order, many African Americans fled to northeast Georgia until they were eventually able to return in 1870 when orders were rescinded ordering all black citizens living within 1 mile (1 kilometer) of any white person or public building back into their original residence/location. In 1900-1901 new housing developments were built by architect John Ladd at what is now called "The Villages", across from downtown Newnan on High Street next to Peachtree Creek Park - these development are often considered pioneers in suburban sprawl throughout north Georgia; at one time there were over 100 such developments across metro Atlanta alone!
