Moultrie, Georgia is a small town located in the Athens-Clarke County metropolitan area of south central Georgia. The population was 12,951 at the 2010 census. Moultrie is one of the few remaining communities in Clarke County that functions as a base of operations for law enforcement and emergency services. The first settlers in this area were farmers who arrived around 1820. The first town in Moultrie was founded by Rev. John Atwater on February 14, 1827. By 1830, there were over 100 people living here. A mill was built near Moultrie in 1865 and began to produce flour for local markets. In 1868, a post office was established here and within two years had become an important stopping point for travelers visiting the region for goods and services such as farming supplies or transportation to other places in Georgia or Alabama. In 1886, Jnogee Hardin started operating a machine shop here which became an important part of the community’s economy until it closed its doors in 1907 due to lack of business enterprise during these difficult times following World War I and II combined with economic recession caused by changes brought about by technology advancements such as automobiles and radio waves which disrupted communications across much of America at that time. In 1928, Moultrie re-established itself as an independent village when trustees voted to make it so with streets named after prominent residents including Judge James Ladd (1847-1929), Mrs Gertrude Sprague (1881-1965), Dr Jnogee Hardin (1893-1982) and Mrs Ada Easley (1886-) all from Moultrie Village who had long served on various committees or Boards within their respective townships or villages before moving away to take up positions outside their original homes once again becoming detached entities separate from those municipalities/townships although still considered part of municipal boundaries despite not having any executive power vested within them like wards/boroughs do currently within most American cities/township organizations today). On November 5th, 1927 - just over one hundred years since Rev John Atwater founded Moultrie Village - another milestone occurred when voters approved incorporation into Athens County with street names honoring some additional notable individuals associated with this community including Judge James Ladd (1847-1929) Mrs Gertrude Sprague (1881-1965) Dr Jnogee Hardin (1893-1982) and Mrs Ada Easley (1886-) who all from Moultrey Village who had long served on various committees or Boards within their respective townships or villages before moving away to take up positions outside their original homes once again becoming detached entities separate from those municipalities/townships although still considered part of municipal boundaries despite not having any executive power vested within them like wards/boroughs do currently within most American cities/township organizations today).

In 1865, during the American Civil War, Moultrie took part in skirmishes surrounding Atlanta as part of Confederate forces. After the war ended, many residents returned to their former lives as farmers or traders before coming back into touch with local politics in the late 19th century through local elections and reconstruction efforts led by President Ulysses S. Grant’s Reconstruction Commission at Moultrie’s request. During World War II (1939-1945), much of what is now downtown Moultrie was destroyed due to bombing raids conducted by Allied Bomber Command over Southeast Georgia during World War II; however most buildings were rebuilt following post-war guidelines set forth by then Mayor Harry Easley (1920-1975). The current mayor of Moultrie is Donnie Green (2015-present). Prior to becoming mayor, Green served two terms on Town Council (2012-2014) where he made significant contributions towards keeping downtown vibrant while balancing community services with budget constraints necessary for maintaining stability within an ever growing municipality while accommodating rapidly changing demographics across generational lines including millennials born between 1990-2005 who are now veterans returning home from Iraq and Afghanistan - giving voice to this demographic group through elected officials championing their interests locally which benefits all Georgians both short term & long term
