Several new businesses have opened up in recent years including two restaurants, a convenience store, a printing shop, a hair salon/Barber Shop combo business called "The Barber Place", several houses were renovated or replaced with more contemporary structures over the past few years (most notably a new elementary school), and two large parks have been built - one near downtown Moultries original courthouse square which hosts annual concerts by country music artists such as Dolly Parton; and another larger park located just off Highway 1A about 10 minutes north of town which features an amphitheater that can seat up to 80000 people for events such as high school football games or county fairs).

The town ceased to exist altogether by 1820. Moultrie is located at 33°34′59″N 86°24′19″W / 33.926511, -86.328481 / 33.926511; it has an elevation of 553 feet (150 meters). The town was first settled in 1795 by farmers who were fleeing Indian advances into their area. By 1830, Moultrie had a population of about 300 people. A post office was established in Moultries in 1802, and remained operational until 1865. Moultrie is named after General James Wilkinson Moultrie (1761-1829), a colonel in the American Revolutionary War who helped victory over British forces at Saratoga Springs on October 11, 1777. Wilkinson was later given the title of brigadier general and served as United States military governor of Cuba from 1798 until his death in 1802. He also acquired land near present-day Moultrie that he used as his plantation home before his death at age 70 years old on July 15, 1829. The Spread Eagle Mine fire occurred on November 3, 1824, when a group of men working at the mine started a large fire that quickly spread to nearby trees and bushes causing extensive damage to both property and people living within miles of the mine site (the blaze destroyed over 60 homes and destroyed or damaged more than 1,500 acres [300 hectares]). In response to this tragedy, government officials decided to close all coal mines statewide for several months while repairs were made to affected properties and operations restarted with greater caution (theminefireof1824 remains one of only two major accidents resulting in economic loss for Georgia between 1800-1890). As a result of this event local farmers developed new crops such as corn instead of cotton which helped contribute significantly to regional growth during this time period; however less than half of these new crops survive into maturity due primarily to early blighting problems experienced by those crops during their growing seasons
