Moultrie, Georgia is home to the world's only gun magazine factory. The Gunsmith Shop has been manufacturing magazines since 1892 and still does today. It was in Moultrie that the first issue of "The Rifleman" was published. The Gunsmith Shop also manufactured the world's first air-cooled revolver in 1907. Today, they continue to produce high quality firearms magazines. In 1906, Colonel John Troup donated land in Moultrie to the Georgia State Rifle Association for a rifle range and club house. In 1912, the Georgia State Pistol Association was formed and soon after, a pistol range was added as well. In 1916, the Moultrie Rifle Club was founded and soon after opened its own shooting ranges on both sides of town. That same year saw the introduction of radial printing into magazine production with the release of "The Rifleman". This innovation made magazines much more durable and less likely to get lost or stolen among all those rounds being fired off-the-job! Moultrie's gun magazine industry began to take off in the 1920s when two new companies were introduced into this market: National Imprinting Company (NIC) and American Armory Company (AAC). NIC produced some of America's most popular magazines such as "The Shooter" and "Masterpiece Arms". AAC produced some truly beautiful models such as the Colt 1911 handgun series which are still popular today! During World War II, many civilians turned to Magazines for ammo storage as ammunition supply shortages led to rationing programs throughout Europe. At times like these it really is amazing what somebody can do with just a bit of creativity!

However, during the postwar decades many factories closed or were converted to light industrial use while others fell victim to pollution and economic decline. By 1990 Moultrien had shrunk to just over 1,000 residents; however it has continued to grow since then thanks largely to converging regional transportation links and new investments including an airport and expressway system serving the city proper as well as neighboring jurisdictions such as Roswell Park (to the north) and Dunwoody (to the south). Today’s economy is based largely on service industries such as health care, government contracting services, retail trade (particularly food stores), education, research assistance and tourism with some small businesses growing rapidly around downtown core business districts catering to specific sectors such as information technology/telecommunications or design services.

Recently there has been growth in the software industry as well as new construction projects being undertaken throughout the town such as a new Walmart store and more than $4 million for infrastructure improvements within 5 years! Moultrie’s rich history includes many important moments that have shaped its culture and future potential. One such moment was when on January 10th 1863 Confederate general Robert E Lee surrendered at Appomattox Court House to Union General Ulysses S Grant. This event helped solidify Southern control over much of Virginia after the Civil War ended which contributed to Moultria’s growth during this time period from village to large city! Today's economy relies heavily on services such as education, health care and retail trade while also providing opportunities for homegrown businesses including restaurant/cafeteria owners etc., which helps support tax levels that are above average for most rural communities across America!
Moultrie was founded in 1750 by John Moultrie, a Scottish-born settler. The town became a cotton plantation in the late 18th century and rapidly grew into one of the most important commercial and social centers in Georgia. In 1814, Moultrie was renamed Atlanta after General Andrew Jackson's victory at Horseshoe Bend in Tennessee. The town experienced significant growth during the antebellum period, with many prominent citizens including congressman James Gadsden, lawyer Elijah Davenport, and physician Dr. Samuel Walker moving to Atlanta for business or pleasure. In 1847, Moultrie wasicks blockaden by Union troops during the American Civil War and quickly fell into disrepair; its population decreased from 2,000 to fewer than 100 over the next decade. However, due to its strategic location on the Savannah River adjacent to Confederate lines, Moultrie continued to play an important role in Georgian society until after World War II.
