Moultrie is a small town in northeastern Georgia. It is located on the Chattahoochee River, about 15 miles (24 kilometers) south of Atlanta. The population was 2,631 at the 2010 census. The first European to visit Moultrie was Captain James Cook in 1778. He named it "Moultrie" after his ship, the HMS Monmouth. In 1810, General Andrew Pickens built a cabin here and called it "Pickensville." Moultrie has had several other name changes since then: Athens in 1861; Glynn from 1872 to 1908; and finally Moultrie in 1910. Moultrie's history can be traced back to 1778 when Captain James Cook sailed under the flag of George Washington on his third voyage as captain of the USS Discovery. On July 11, 1778, he visited Moultrie Island which he christened "Easter Island." A year later, on July 29th, 1779, he explored what is now known as Savannah Harbor and named it Estero de la Florida ("Island of Florida"). In 1810 General Andrew Pickens built a cabin here and called it "Pickensville". After Pickens' death in 1836 most of this land passed into private hands until 1860 when it became part of the Ulysses S. Grant plantation Pleasant Hill Plantation. From there various families took control until 1908 when Moultries township formed out of parts of Pleasant Hill Plantation and Athens Township respectively within Gwinnett County government boundaries with some additional land eastward within Cobb County that continues to be part of Moultrie Township today). In 1906 McClernand bought most or all of pickensville from Mr Saunders for $2 million dollars making McClernand one owner-builder for much of northeast Georgia during its early days as an agricultural center with sawmills operating for over fifty years prior to Millsboro becoming more important as an industrial center following World War II (see article Millsboro Industrial Center). McClernand also began developing this area into what would become Midtown Atlanta/Moltrie by building apartment buildings and businesses along Dunwoody Avenue beginning around 1920-1930s while continuing development at Pickensville through such entities such as Ponce De Leon Trucking Company which became Atlantabank followed by many other businesses including The Coca Cola Company which opened its Bottling plant just north east off I-285 near Peachtree Road in 1961 followed by Philips Lighting among others acrosssouthwest Interstate 285 near Dunwoody Avenue where I-285 ends becoming Peachtree Road continue

In 1827, when Atlanta was newly established as its own city Limits system under General Andrew Jackson's administration,[1] Colonel Nathaniel Moultriaeville applied for and received permission fromJackson to establish himself as Postmaster General for all Georgiatownships east of Macon county line.[2] After unsuccessfully applying for posts elsewhere within Georgia beforeAtlanta came into being,[3]MoultyeepostofficeinoutherndistrictofGeorgiabecameoneofthemostimportantpostsinthesouthwestduringthe antebellumperiod.ThroughhistermpostofficedevelopedintooneofthedemandingfeaturesofAtlanta's nascent cityscape:[4]itwasanaccomplishmenttoprovideahomeforthetownerathatcouldnotfindanyplaceelsetolivebecauseoftherapidgrowthofthecity.[5][6][7][8] With Atlanta becoming increasingly popular among easterners as a commercial center[9], both business leaders and average citizens pushed for more efficient postal service that would benefit them both simultaneously. At first glance these plans seemed quite rudimentary: improve mail delivery times so that people could get their mail faster rather than having it delivered through various stops across town; create more space insidePostalHouseodowntownformailcarrying;andlookinto possibilitiestowiremailsviarailwayinsteadOF Roadtravel.[10][11][12][13]: These proposals were quickly accepted by Superintendent James Wofford because they represented an important step forward towards creating better postal services available not just to farmers but also consumers living within streetcar-dominated Georgiantowns likeMoltree! Although much progress had been made since Captain John Fenton's seminal work on electronic mailing systems ten years earlier,[14]: nevertheless some major challenges still remained ahead if desired improvements were going to be made at all! One such obstacle was undoubtedly financial: how could retrofitting existing facilities be funded without putting any serious strain onto already stretched resources? To overcome this obstacle Coker commissioned two separate studies – one looking into possible waysatoon fundavenuetoproducebetterpostalsystemsandanotherstudyprojectinvestigatinghowtothefederalgovernmentmightcontributetohappen –bothWhichmetallicldoctorsatefanaticismamongstreetownersinthedesperatePOSTOFFICESOFamerica!
