Moultrie is a town in DeKalb County, Georgia, United States. The population was 6,836 at the 2010 census. The city of Moultrie was founded in 1881 by John W. Moultrie and his family. The first post office in Moultrie was established in 1884. It closed in 1907. Moultrie is located at (33.8793), about south of Atlanta and east of Spaldingville. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all of it land. The climate in this area is characterized by hot, humid summers and generally mild to cool winters; however, due to its proximity to the Gulf Coast and Atlantic Ocean, Moultrie experiences significant amounts of rainfall from winter storms that can cause extensive flooding.[2] As a result, much of the town's infrastructure including roads and schools were built with heavy rains in mind or are based on precedents set during previous floods such as those that occurred during Hurricane Ivan in 2000 or Katrina two years later.[3] In addition to its natural resources which include timberland, cotton plantations dating back to before European settlement through the early 1800s,[4] nearby Lawrenceville also houses some manufacturing businesses that have helped contribute significantly to the economy since 2001 when Interstate 285 bypassed downtown Moultrie Boulevard creating what is now known as "Downtown Loop" (formerly "John Street") between I-285/Highway 226 and rolling farmland until it meets Peachtree Road just east of I-285 near Piedmont Park Drive;[5][6][7]: As one enters Downtown Loop one begins looking towards MARTA's Terminal Station on Peachtree Road just past Piedmont Park Drive where trains stop for commuters coming into downtown from suburban areas around Marietta or Roswell;[5][6][7]: At pedestrian crossings along I-285 motorists must yield right-of-way while pedestrians cross using an electronic crossing system called "Lightrail". This allows people who work or live close by but do not want cars following them on their commute home an alternative way to get around without getting wet outside as they walk across First Street NW.,Old Fourth Street NE.,Inwood Avenue SW.,and Third Street SE.;

Moultrie is a small town in Macon County, Georgia, United States. The population was 1,859 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1812 by Colonel John Fitch and his wife Deborah Moultrie. In 1828, the town was moved to its present location on the Chattahoochee River. The community began as a trading post on the Chattahoochee River where Native Americans traded goods with white settlers. Colonel John Fitch's daughter, Deborah Moultrie, purchased land in 1812 and built herself a cabin near present-day Moultrie Creek. She raised chickens and pigs there until her death in 1827. The Fitches' son, William Fitch, continued their farm operations until he died in 1830. In 1828, General Andrew Jackson's army invaded Georgia and occupied Macon County; Colonel John Fitch decided to move his family to safety on the Chattahoochee River. The Arkansas Post Road became known as "Jackson Avenue" in memory of this event. The family arrived at their new home on the riverbank just before Christmas of that year. The first school open for students in what is now Moultrie occurred that year; it was part of an effort to encourage farming among African American slaves who were living nearby but not engaging in traditional agricultural pursuits because they lacked access to education or tools such as tractors or seed machines. The first store opened here also: Mrs Gwin's Store (1831). That business burned down within weeks of opening due to lack of insurance coverage; however Mrs Gwin rebuilt it soon afterwards and went into full operation as a general store serving both black residents and whites alike until 1954 when she passed away suddenly after many years of neglecting her business while living inside her home which had been abandoned for years prior thereto! A second store: Price & Rankin's Store (1902) followed soon thereafter with even more success! That business prospered until 1951 when it too closed due to lack of customers during the Cold War era!
Moultrie was founded in 1802 by Capt. John Moultrie and his wife, Nelly. The town grew up around the natural resources that were available in the area: timber and coal. When the railroad arrived in 1881, Moultrie became a key stop on the line. The town continued to grow after that, and now has a population of over 10,000 residents.
