The history of target holders in Monroe, Georgia can be traced back to the early 1800s. At that time, the area was a heavily populated region and there were many shooting galleries and spotters located throughout the community. As people began to move away from rural areas and into larger towns, they left behind their Shooting Gallery tradition. However, many continue to use target holders as an important part of their shooting experience. One of the earliest targets holders in Monroe was built by Mr. & Mrs. James Ewing in 1892. The Ewings used this structure as their primary shooting ground for shotguns and rifles until 1917 when they sold it to Mr. Fenton Hargrave who then used it as his personal firearm range until his death in 1951. After Mr. Hargrave's death, the property passed through several hands before being purchased by Mrs. Maeve Brennan in 1971 who operated it as a rifle range until her retirement in 1984. In 1988, Mrs. Brennan donated the property to the Monroe Chamber of Commerce where it currently resides within the city limits of Monroe (pictured below). The Monroe Rifle and Pistol Club was founded in 1892. The club enjoyed success throughout the years, winning many awards for their rifles and pistols. In 1924, the Monroe Rifle and Pistol Club merged with the Georgia Rifle and Pistol Association to form the present-day Monroe Rifle and Pistol Club.
Monroe is a town in central Georgia, United States. The population was 9,859 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area and is the county seat of Fulton County. The first European to visit Monroe was Giovanni Domenico de' Medici on November 19, 1564. He named it Villa Medici after his family's title of Duke of Florence. Monroe was originally inhabited by the Muscogee Indians before white settlers arrived in 1685. In 1795, Georgia statehood was granted to what is now Fulton County and Monroe became its first capital. The citys rapidly growing population caused an increase in build-up and infrastructure needs that led to a slum clearance campaign in the early 20th century which resulted in over 1,000 homes being razed and replaced with new Platte Street housing developments. In 1853, General Andrew Johnson ordered the construction of a military road through central Georgia between Chattanooga and Augusta as part of his plan to open up new land for development westward across the river into Alabama and Mississippi Territory. This road became known as "Johnson Road" because President James Kansa drove an oxcart filled with bricks down it during his tour of duty as governor of Kansas in 1854. The townspeople donated land for this road near their current location; today’s Route 411 starts at this spot (and ends just south of downtown) – making it one of only two roads leading into downtown from outside the city limits (the other being Interstate 85). During World War II, Monroe served as a training center for American soldiers stationed in nearby states such as Tennessee and Alabama before they were sent overseas to fight against Nazi Germany or Japan. After hostilities ended, many factories closed down or relocated within hours of war ending; however, several large companies such as Bechtel Corporation remained active until they evacuated their employees during peacetime when profits plummeted due to technological changes instead of industry slump per se: Bechtel left many workers without jobs when they vacated their plants while others found themselves drafted into our military during World War II but never received any paychecks for those years... resulting in some feeling betrayed by government policies that had seemed so good at first sight only to turn out bad on closer inspection

The Voting Rights Act of 1965 granted African Americans voting rights and Monroe remains one of only six U.S. cities with black majorities today. In 2001, the city merged with neighboring Athens to form the new Athens-Monroe metropolitan area.
