In addition to its rich history, today’s Monroe offers many opportunities for fun including growth in both its cultural attractions and economic sectors which have helped make it an important part of Fulton County’s overall community development plan

This led to the development of pistols that could be fired using electricity, and rifles and shotguns that could be shoot with gunfire by attaching an electric discharge tube to the barrel. Gun lights continued to be developed through the years until they became standard on most firearms around the world. Many different types have been produced over the years, including LED gunsights and red/green LED sights. Today, many people enjoy using gun lights for various purposes such as hunting, target shooting, safety inspections, or just general illumination while carrying their firearm around town.

Monroe was founded by the Georgia General Assembly in 1777 as a small hamlet on the banks of the Chattahoochee River. The original town was named Fort Monmouth, but it was renamed Monroe in honor of James Monroe, the 7th United States President and first U.S. Secretary of State. The town grew quickly due to its position on the Battleground Trail and its location near Macon and Athens counties. In 1802, Monroe became a state capital under Governor Augustus Troup and soon developed into one of Georgia's most vibrant cities. By 1830, the population had reached 10,000 people and by 1840 it had doubled to 25,000 people. During the antebellum period, Monroe experienced significant development due to its status as an important transportation hub for goods moving between Georgia and South Carolina and within Alabama. In addition, it became a center for African American slavery because of its close proximity to both slave-owning cotton plantations and major black markets in Mobile Bayou area. In 1870, following Reconstruction efforts which ended white rule in Georgia, Monroe reverted back to its prior name of Fort Monmouth. It remained an important cultural center until 1975 when it lost all federal funding for local culture programs following passage of legislation creating Fulton County as part of metropolitan Atlanta region
