One important milestone during this time was establishment of two major NRA events – The National Rifle Association State Championship Match (now known as The NRA Atlanta Open) and The NRA World Shooting Championships (now known as IPSC World Target Shooters Championships). These championships helped promotegun safetyawarenessandqualificationforshooters aroundtheworldandhelpedtopromotegunculture worldwide. In 1949, Milton merged with neighboring Candlerville to form a new municipality; this merger lasted until 1975 when Candlerville regained its own government status following annexation by Milton. Although not always thriving economically or politically since its incorporation into another municipality (though still one of Fulton County's most populous towns), Milton has seen significant redevelopment over time including numerous new homes built throughout recent decades along with several professional schools and businesses such as health care clinics and law enforcement agencies
