Milton first settled in what is now central Milton on the banks of the Chattahoochee River in 1821 when General James Wilkinson founded Piedmont during his campaign against Native American Chief Osage Indian Territory east of Atlanta.. Afterward Milton became an agricultural center due to its fertile soil and proximity to railroads. Manufacturing began arriving from outside of Georgia beginning in the early 20th century with automobiles being produced at Dunwoody mills before moving into larger plants elsewhere across America during World War II while other industries such as textiles moved out of town altogether during that time period becoming known as "The Shipyards". In 1957 Michael Ladd (founder of Ladd Paper Company) opened up a paper mill called Ladd Paper Limited that remains active today making products like paper towels, envelopes and packaging products although it abandoned most production overseas due to competition from Asian producers beginning in the late 1970s while private companies took over many aspects of manufacturing throughout Georgias post-war economic boom until recently when smaller manufacturers have regained some market share through entry into digital printing/photography using 3D printing technology which allows for greater accuracy with less waste than traditional methods however large scale production still occurs at legacy facilities across rural Fulton County Today much focus continues within local businesses on innovation & creativity within product development - led by Head Start Association Of Gwinnett County which operates four Head Start Centers located throughout Fulton County - providing quality pre-school programming for more than 620 kindergarten thru third grade students each day along with professional development opportunities for employees - all helping reduce poverty & weekly work hours enjoyed by workers statewide!
