The Milledgeville Rifle & Pistol Club was founded in 1875. The club enjoyed some success at the local fairs and had a number of members who were able to purchase rifles and pistols. In 1885, the club decided to form its own society and began using the name “Milledgeville Rifle & Pistol Association”. In 1903, the Milledgeville Rifle & Pistol Association organized a rifle match against neighboring Lithia Gun Club. The match was a very successful event with many members taking part. 5 years later, in 1911, the Milledgeville Rifle & Pistol Association organized its first pistol match against nearby Decatur Gun Club. This event also proved to be successful with many members taking part. In 1925, the Milledgeville Rifle & Pistol Association organized its third rifle match against neighboring Bainbridge Gun Club. This event also proved to be successful with many members taking part. Two years later, in 1929, the Milledgeville Rifle & Pistol Association organized its fourth rifle match against neighboring Grady Gun Club. This event also proved to be successful with many members taking part including future Atlanta Mayor Ivan Allen Fentress who took home two shotguns and three pistols during this competition In 1937, the Milledgeville Rifle & Pistol Association organization merged with neighbouring Newton County NRA Society which resulted in an increase in firepower for both organizations going forward
Milledgeville is a small town located in the U.S. state of Georgia, about 20 miles west of Athens. The population was 5,819 at the 2010 census. Milledgeville is part of the Marietta–Gainesville Metropolitan Statistical Area. It has a history dating back to 1825 when it was known as "Milledgeville Plantation". In that year, John Crain, an African American slaveowner and a member of the Georgia General Assembly, purchased 350 acres (1 km2) of land in what is now Milledgeville from David Lane for $10 per acre (3,636 m²). The area became known as Crain's Mill because it produced flour for local markets and also housed a millrace used to deliver water to nearby farms. The first store in Milledgeville opened in 1853. By 1865, there were five stores and two hotels in town. A post office was established in 1875 and continued operation until 1953; however, its name has been changed several times over the years. One of the earliest industries based in Milledgeville was farming; early residents grew corn, cotton, potatoes and other vegetables for local marketplaces or exported these goods to markets around Atlanta or Jacksonville. Cotton gin production began operations onsite in 1907 which led to increased output and brought new jobs into town during prohibition period when alcohol could not be bought without having your property confiscated by government officials In 1916-17 Millinggeville had its first black schoolteacher when Mrs Fenton taught one day after school at Village School while her husband worked at their farm outside town In 1922-23 Mrs Treadwell ran an orphanage near Main Street while her husband served as school trustee In 1933-34 Mrs Whitehead managedsidestoreandlibraryatTown Hall while her son Fredrickson operatedthepostoffice In 1951 Mr & Mrs Hickey started up their own hardware store just east of main street which prospered until they retired in 1984 In 2006 Ms Hardesty started up a new business called 'Nappy Bags' on Main Street

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 7 square miles (18 km²), all of it land. As of the census of 2000, there were 10,251 people, 498 households, and 321 families residing in the town. The population density was 1,521.1 people per square mile (553.0/km²). There were 511 housing units at an average density of 552.2 per square mile (221.4/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 97% White; 1% African American; 0% Native American; 0% Asian; <0>%; and <0>%. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1% of the population
