Milledgeville is the home of HolsterWorks LLC, which manufactures and sells holster products. The company was founded in 1984 by Rick Helling and his wife Karen Helling. It became a nationally known brand with its first product being an American-made holster for the Glock Pistol.

Milledgeville is located on the South Side of Atlanta, about 20 miles west of the city center and 30 miles east of Savannah. The first mention of Milledgeville occurs in 1785 when it was known as "Millerville". In 1828, John Wesley Hardin purchased land in what is now Milledgeville from a group of Cherokee Indians. This area became known as Hardin's Landing because it was here that General James Harnett landed his force during the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain. For many years, Milledgeville was a agricultural community with residents growing corn, beans, cotton, and other vegetables. However, over time Machine Shop Manufacturing has become one of the town's most important industries. Machine Shop Manufacturing began in 1865 as a machine shop for Robbins & Co., a textile company based in Philadelphia. The factory produced engines and turbines for electric power plants across North America and Europe until it closed in 1982. Today, portions of the facility remain open as part of the Georgia Guidestones National Monumentground Park. Today’s residents are primarily responsible for their own businesses and maintain close ties to their regional communities; however there are also some elements which have drawn people to Middledgeville over time: its climate (average summer temperature around 80 degrees), well-maintained infrastructure (including Roads 1-5), diverse cultural experiences available within walking distance or just minutes away including several theaters and restaurants; good schools (Public Schools No Child Left Behind rated “ Excellent ), excellent job opportunities available; vibrant downtown which offers shopping, dining and entertainment options year round; park with interpretive trails providing interesting insights into early American life
