One factory was founded in 1851 by James Milling and the other was founded in 1875 by John Hargrave. These two factories produced over 1 million firearms between them. Gun magazines were also a common sight in Milledgeville during this time. The first gun magazine to be published in Milledgeville was the "Milledgeville Gazette" which started publication in 1856. It was published every weeknight and it lasted for about four years before it folded due to financial difficulties. The second gun magazine to be published in Milledgeville was the "Owl's Nest" which started publication on October 15, 1865. It lasted for about six months before it folded due to financial problems as well. The third gun magazine to be published in Milledgeville was the "Atlanta Constitution" which started publication on November 6, 1870. It lasted for about three years before it folded because of financial troubles as well. The fourth Gun Magazine To Be Published In Milledgeville Was The "Georgian Banner" Which Started Publication On January 9th 1881 And Lasted For About Six Months Before Foldingdue To Financial Problems

Milledgeville is a city in Georgia, United States. The population was 21,871 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Gwinnett County. The City of Milledgeville was founded on November 3, 1807 by James Milledge and his brother John. The first settler in what is now Milledgeville was James Crain who arrived in 1793. James and John's father, Peter Crain had settled in what is now Roswell Township on the Chattahoochee River near present-day Alpharetta. At that time, there were no roads or streets in this area so residents traveled by boat or horseback to get to their stores and homes on the riverfront. Milledgeville began as a small town with only a few hundred residents around 1800 when it became known as "the little old town". By 1821, the city had grown to include 6 miles (10 km) of sandy beachfront land and over 20 houses. In 1824, Milledgeville acquired its first post office which served as the community's center until 1865 when Athens took over that function. In 1840, James Auld discovered oil field properties west of Milledgeville and decided to settle these lands downriver from Athens so he named his new settlement "Auld's Landing" after himself and his brother-in-law Drury Ladd who ran an oil pipeline through that area for several years before it was abandoned due to lack of investment. In 1860, Congressman John Fenton moved from Atlanta to become US Senator from Georgia; he renamed Milledgeville after him because no other name would fit perfectly into the small town's geographical location - located on both banks of the Chattahoochee River between Athens and Roswell). After serving two terms in Congress (1863-1867), Fenton returned home but continued living at "Auld's Landing" until he died at age 91 on October 7th, 1901 – one year before Gwinnett County became organized as a county within Georgia! On July 1st 1893 local landowners all met together at Goshen Tavern outside of present day Alpharetta to form a government for their new community – this organization later became known as "The National Association of Settlers in Gwinnett County" or NASGCO for short! This group successfully lobbied for passage of legislation creating Gwinnett County without any involvement from either Athens or Marietta which caused deep irritation among many farmers living east of Interstate 85 whose crops depended upon production along I-85! After some back AND forth negotiations between NASGCO & Athens Mayor George Bailey finally resulted in title deeds being issued December 14th 1893 naming all parcels within today’s boundaries including portions east “of I-85” such as Duluth Road (now Paulding Road), Grady Highway/Highway 24 & parts south “of I-285” such as road leading into Alpharetta including current day Gainesville Boulevard! This marks not only formal incorporation into GA but also official annexation by GA proper!!! From here things started rapidly moving forward with development plans finalized & construction starting soon thereafter culminating with full commercial operation by 1906!!!!!
