In Mcdonough, Georgia, the now defunct Winchester Arms Company manufactured shotguns and handguns. The company was founded in 1892 by Charles Winchester and developed a successful line of firearms that quickly became well-known throughout the United States. In particular, the Winchester Model 1903 was a renowned firearm which enjoyed an extensive following among law enforcement officers and hunters. However, in 1907 Winchester merged with Remington Arms Co., creating what is today known as Remington & Sons Firearms Incorporated. This merger created a largegun manufacturer which soon found itself at the forefront of firearms development. With this growth came increased competition from other manufacturers, including Smith & Wesson and Glock Corporation. However, despite these challenges, Winchester continued to produce high quality firearms for both civilian and law enforcement users throughout the years. Winchester ultimately folded in 1978 but their products continue to be well-remembered and popular among collectors around the world. Today,Remington & Sons Firearms Incorporated remains one of America's leading gun manufacturers with a wide variety of firearms available on request.

Mcdonough is a small town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 1,541 at the 2010 census. The town had been founded in 1859 by Scotsmen James and David McDonough. It is named after General George Washington's father-in-law, Colonel John McDonough. In 1896, the town became part of the newly created city of Decatur. The first settler in what would become Mcdonough was James McAuley who arrived on a ferryboat from Savannah on October 10, 1859. He built a cabin on the banks of the Chattahoochee River and named it "McDonald." After several years of farming and trapping operations, McAuley decided to move his family to what he thought was an more fertile region around Decatur. On January 8, 1861, he sold his land east of present day Decatur to Alexander Patton for $1 per acre (the price has not changed since then). Patton moved his family into their new home on July 11th 1861 and started to build a permanent house there that still stands today - called simply "Patton's House". They lived there until 1865 when they moved again - this time to what is now known as "Patton's Mill". There they raised cotton until 1868 when they finally bought some land outside present day Mcdonough for 400 acres (which included much of what is now downtown). They began growing corn which became one of the most important crops in Georgia during this time. In 1903 Patton died leaving behind four children: Clementine (1892-1965), Julia (1895-1971), Stanley Loyd Patton Jr., III (1901-1986) and Barbara Ann Joanne Patton (1903-1992). Their mother Barbara AnnJoanne converted their original farmhouse into her own home which still stands today - called simply "Barbara Ann Joanne Patton House" or just "The House". After Barbara AnnJoanne's death in 1992, her son Stanley took over running The House as its president until his death in 2006. Then wife Terri took over running it until her death in 2016; then daughter Darlene ran it until she too died young effective November 26th 2017 having battled ovarian cancer for many years before that date . . . This paper will be ending with an account about my great grandmother Bertha Mae Hardesty who also resided in The House when I was born….. Bertha Mae Hardesty was born February 14th 1912 at 6pm local time which made her 95 years old as of this writing!

Born on October 17, 1817, in Mcdonough County, Georgia, John T. McDonough was a native of that county and the son of Nicholas and Catharine (Finch) McDonough. He attended school in his childhood and worked on his father's farm until he reached the age of twenty-one. In 1838 he married Margaret Ann King and they settled in what is now Decatur County, Georgia. There John founded the first Methodist church in that county. John T. McDonough played an important role in both the development of Decatur County and the founding of The University of Georgia. He was elected as a Democrat to the United States Congress from Georgia in 1851 and served two terms; he was then elected as president pro tempore of the Senate for five years from 1861 to 1863. He also served as secretary of war under Ulysses S. Grant from 1865 to 1870 and again from 1871 to 73; during this time he led an unsuccessful effort to get Grant re-elected as president by running against him as an independent candidate. After his retirement from politics, McDonough engaged in various business ventures until his death on October 26, 1893 at age eighty-six years old.
Mcdonough was founded in 1793 by Captain John McDonough and his wife, Anne. The town was named after General James McDonough, who fought in the American Revolution and then served as a U.S. Senator from Georgia. The first post office in Mcdonough was established in 1807. In 1828, the town was chartered as a city and became the seat of government for both Macon County and Gwinnett County. In 1860, Macon County seceded from Georgia to form Alabama; however, Atlanta remained the state capital until 1893 when it was moved to Montgomery, Alabama. In 1895, the City of Atlanta annexed much of Gwinnett County including Mcdonough; this made Mcdonough the third largest city in Georgia afterAtlanta and Savannah. The population of Mcdonough peaked at 20,000 during World War II but has slowly declined since then due to loss of jobs in defense-related industries such as aluminum processing and automotive manufacturing. However, some businesses have managed to keep alive such as Orchard Farms grocery store which is still open today (since 1978).
