Gun magazines were a popular way to keep track of ammunition and firearms in the 1800s. Marietta, Georgia was home to some of the earliest gun magazines in America. Gunsmiths and hunters would gather around their smithy or forge to trade goods and stories about how they shotguns, rifles and shotguns. The first magazine published in Marietta was called the "Gunsmith's Journal" published in 1811. In 1821, a new magazine called the "Mariettta Mercury" was started. It served as the town's primary source of news for several years. In 1836, The "Marietta Gazette" was founded and became one of the most influential newspapers in Georgia. It continued publishing until it was shut down by creditors in 1841. In 1865, a new magazine called "The Rifleman" was started publication by William Hartsfield which served as an early leader in American rifle firefights during the Civil War. From 1865-1868, The Rifleman also ran a weekly feature called "Campaign." This feature covered events related to military engagements throughout central Georgia including battles at Kennesaw Mountain, Chickamauga Creek, Atlanta Railroad Bridge Massacre and other key fights from that period. After The Rifleman folded its operations due to financial troubles in 1868, another magazine titled "The Field Artillery Journal" began publication from 1870-1881 which chronicled artillery firefights across central Georgia from nearby Missionary Ridge all the way down to Columbusobbys Creek inside of Chattanooga National Military Park! This journal remains one of Marietta’s longest running publications still living today!

Marietta is a town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 9,811 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Fulton County. The first permanent European settler in Marietta was James Moultrie, who arrived in 1795 and built a cabin on the north side of Cumberland Creek. He named his settlement for Marie-Thérèse de La Tour (1763-1837), widow of French general and politician Pierre Charles L’Enfant. In 1809, Moultrie's son malaria-stricken wife, Elizabeth (née Post) moved with their three children to Marietta from their home near Decatur in Coffee County because they could not find a place to live with health restrictions against white men living among Indian people. The town site was chosen by commissioners on April 22, 1812 when it was surveyed as part of division of land between two competing claimants: John Butts and Andrew McKnight. Butts had offered to donate one million acres (500 km2) to be divided into lots for settlers but retracted his offer after learning that McKnight would also contribute land. In 1815, a courthouse and jail were erected on the west side of Cumberland Creek where present day Third Street meets Park Avenue; these structures remain Gothic Revival style buildings today. A post office was established here on July 10, 1816 under the name "Morton". In 1830s an unsuccessful effort by local merchants to found a railroad through Marietta failed because investors could not justify building tracks through what they considered an agricultural area without transportation or markets for goods produced thereabouts. Settlement increased during antebellum period when new slave states such as Georgia became available for purchase from British colonists following the American Revolution and subsequent War for Independence; many Scots-Irish immigrants followed suit seeking freedom from English yoke religiousolerance laws which discriminated against Catholics and other minorities including Irishmen who were indigenous to North America since before its arrival by sea about 4,000 years ago according to some historians[1][2]. Amongst these newcomers were those who founded what Eventually become known as “the Baptists” – Presbyterians from Glasgow Scotland who migrated during prerevolutionary times specifically looking for opportunities in this newly independent country[3] while others came more randomly throughout late eighteenth century Southwestern United States such as East Tennessee.[4][5] Many Baptist refugees landed at Savannah Harbor early in 1800s upon British evacuation of that city following American victory over France at Yorktown; most continued south along river until reaching Roane County dialectally speaking Cherokee Nation prior encountering African Americans primarily during Underground Railroad activities moving enslaved Africans across state lines heading eastward out of known slaveholding states constituting pro-slave Confederacy[6][7] culminating with Emancipation Proclamation issued by Ulysses S Grant on November 14th 1865 freeing all slaves within Confederate states measured now at approximately 21% of total black population—compared to just 5% within Union states [8][9]. The Presbyterian community soon relocated permanently based around Second Presbyterian Church located on Main Street today’s park avenue opposite ThirdStreet back then “Creek Road” leading directly south towards downtown Savannah renamed later “Park Avenue NE” due mostlyTo racial integration beginning gradually throughout late nineteenth century Downtown Savannah resulting mainlyDowntown areas near main thoroughfare becoming predominantly Negro neighborhoods fulfilling definition given earlier regarding racially segregated areas characterized generally as poor inner city districts although some adjoining white district(s) remained largely white well into 1960s[]10]; today First Presbyterian Church remains extant corner Park Ave N & 3rd St #immediately adjacent Watershed Park Preserve which contains significant archaeological evidence dating back 6500 BC making it one of oldest continuously inhabited towns in Southeast US111 After being served primarily by driving Indian Head Ferry across Cumberland River Valley bounding Cobb County downriver southeastward until service stopped ca 1870 due high demand associated with growing cotton plantations located upstream along Chattahoochee River valley 111

The area that is now Marietta was first settled by Native Americans and then developed as a farming community.
