They named their farm "Macon" after General James Wilkinson's command unit which fought at Battle of Monmouth in 1778. Over time, other settlements were placed around this original farmstead including: Albion (1824), Athens (1828), and Roswell (1830). In 1830, a post office was established at Albion with John Dutton as its first mail carrier. By 1851, all three villages had merged into one entity - Macon - which later became known as Atlanta when that city was founded in 1857 by its founder, Andrew Jackson

Macon, Georgia is a small city located in the northeastern United States. The population was 6,521 at the 2010 census. It occupies a small area on the state line between Alabama and Georgia. Macon is home to the University of Georgia and the Macon-Bibb County Courthouse, both of which are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The history of Macon begins with its founding in 1805 as a town under English rule. After several years, it became an American settlement known as Augusta. In 1814, General Andrew Jackson moved his army from New Orleans to Mobile, Alabama, and ordered General James Hogg to build a fort at Macon to protect British interests in Mobile Bay. When Hogg arrived in late 1814, he discovered that most of his men were too ill-equipped or unwilling to garrison an important fortification; instead he elected to disband his force and return home. On October 17th of that year, Hogg re-assembled his troops at Fort Gaines near where present day Interstate 10 crosses over into Georgia (the fort was renamed Fort Jackson after General Jackson's death). In 1840, John Troup founded what would later become Macon College; it was one of only two colleges established by Georgian planters during Reconstruction Era America.
