The area that would become Loganville was first settled in 1801 by James Logan, who founded what is now Coffee County. In 1903, the railroad reached Loganville and began toload supplies for its new construction colony of Valdosta, Georgia. This community grew rapidly due to the influx of workers and their families, which led to much development along Highway 2A (later US 278) in what would become Loganvilletowne Shopping Center today. Today’s shopping center includes several stores including Macy’s Department Stores (now JCPenney), Sears Roebuck & Co., Radio Shack, Carrabba’s Italian Eatery, Applebee’s Tavern & Grill and numerous other tenants over 20 years old! The original Main Street also served as a busy commercial artery with many businesses opening up during that time including: A&P Supermarket, Kroger Grocery store(now Kroger grocery chain), Public Service Company gas station/laundry services etcetera! In recent years downtown business owners have worked hard to revitalize Main Street with many small businesses relocated or re-opened within walking distance from the courthouse square; making it an even more vibrant place to live than it once was! One significant event that happened during this time period related to Commerce Avenue would be World War II when on September 15th 1942 there was an air raid on Atlanta causing blast damage throughout most of downtown as well as some homes including those on Commerce avenue where many people lost their lives! With so much death and destruction around town one can imagine how difficult life must have been for everyday citizens trying to survive during those times! After the war ended there were few opportunities for employment within these limitations so many residents turned their attention towards farming which continues today despite tight economic times thanks largely to irrigation systems being constructed statewide following World War II
Loganville was founded in 1820 by Col. James Logan and his family. The community was named for General John Logan, who fought in the American Revolution. In 1830, the town passed to Georgia statehood and was renamed Loganville State Park. The park was dedicated in 1934.
