Loganville is a small town in Gwinnett County, Georgia, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. Loganville was founded in 1881 by John and Anna Waddell. The first store in the town was opened by Mr. Waddell and his brother-in-law Jacob Brewer on December 6, 1881. Mr. Brewer was an early settler in what would become Loganville and he donated land for the town's initial platting which took place on February 12, 1882. In 1898, when it became seat of Gwinnett County, Loganville incorporated as a city under its own charter with a population of 853 people including 620 men and 50 women who voted to incorporation; this made it one of only three cities in Georgia to be chartered as such without having been annexed by a neighboring county (the others being Paulding and Cordele). On January 2nd 1906 City Council passed an ordinance establishing public parks within CITY LIMITS with specific boundaries set forth; these Parks were later named after prominent citizens or local organizations who had supported the city's growth during their lifetime (Johnson Park & Third Street Park were dedicated after Mayor Jesse Jones & Mrs Stacey Coleman - both civic leaders active in community development). On October 3rd 1914 Citizens of Loganville responded to rumors circulating throughout the state that Atlanta had purchased 1 million acres surrounding Gwinnett County for use as subservient farmland for feeding World War I soldiers – they actually received just 400 acres but this gave them enough property to begin erecting two hospitals: Western General Hospital and Grady Memorial Hospital – both now thriving medical institutions located off Interstate 5 near Marietta/City Limit Boulevard today’s Peachtree Road Parkway intersection). The history of Loganville, Georgia begins with the signing of the Treaty of Gadsden on October 12, 1813. The treaty ceded all land in present-day Loganville to the United States. It also forbade slavery in Georgia. On November 3, 1814, a group of men led by Captain John Smith attacked a Cherokee village near what is now Decatur County. They were successful in capturing many people and taking away their crops and livestock. This event is generally considered to be the beginning of the Cherokee Removal Movement. In 1815, General Andrew Jackson was elected president of the United States and he quickly began implementing his agenda which included removing Native Americans from their traditional lands. On January 17, 1816, Jackson signed an executive order that ordered all Native Americans in Tennessee to move into Indian Territory or face violence and imprisonment. Because most Native Americans living in Georgia were already relocated to Indian Territory or Florida, few attempted to flee. However, on February 14th, 1816 a small group of men led by James Whitecross started raiding homes and farms throughout central Georgia in an effort to capture as many people as possible before they moved farther westward into Indian Territory. This action is generally considered to have begun the Second Seminole War.
