At this time, there weren’t any schools within walking distance so most kids went to school down at Union Station across the street where services like dentistry and veterinary care were available as well as movie theaters and various other types of businesses . It wasn’t until 1907 that an all-black elementary school called “Loganville School” opened up on Main Street which helped feed into white enrollment rates starting declining starting around that year . In 1912, main street was wideneden from two lanes (now four) through downtown with also installation Of sidewalks along both sides making it safer for pedestrians… even children! It wasn’t until 1951 when Interstate 20 bypassed downtown creating traffic backups heading westbound that main street again became bridged connecting east/west streets making it more accessible for vehicles but not pedestrian traffic anymore!
